Recall Summary

Name of Product: Power Armor Collectible Helmets

Hazard: Mold can be present on the fabric insert inside the helmet, posing a risk of respiratory or other infections in individuals with compromised immune systems, damaged lungs or an allergy to mold.

Remedy: Refund

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled collectible helmets and contact GameStop for a full refund and return instructions. GameStop is contacting all known purchasers directly.

This recall involves the Fallout 1:1 T-51 Power Armor Nuka Cola Helmet. The one-size fits-all helmet is constructed of ABS plastic and has a polyester/cotton blend fabric liner with elastic. The product name “T-51b” and “Power Armor Helmet” appears on the product packaging. 

Incidents/Injuries: None reported

Sold At: Online at GameStop.com in June 2019 for about $150.

Q. Why is the firm conducting this recall?

A.  Our supplier, Chronicle LLC, is conducting this recall out of an abundance of caution to keep our customers safe.  We are working with Chronicle LLC to notify consumers about the recall, obtain the return of the recalled products, and provide refunds to consumers. 

Q. How is the firm conducting this recall?

A.  All of the recalled new Fallout 1:1 T-51b Power Armor Nuka Cola Helmets were purchased by consumers online through GameStop.com – and GameStop has contacted all consumers who purchased this product directly to inform them of the recall and how to obtain a refund.

Q. How can I tell if my product is affected by the recall?

A.  The product being recalled is known as the Fallout 1:1 T-51 Power Armor Nuka Cola Helmet (UPC 680168887110) You can see a photograph of this product on the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission  website at https://www.cpsc.gov/Recalls/2019/Chronicle-Recalls-Power-Armor-Collectible-Helmets-Due-to-Risk-of-Mold-Exposure-Recall-Alert. The recall only involves the Fallout 1:1 Power Armor Nuka Cola Helmets that have a red painted finish with white-colored exterior tubing around the sides.  The recalled red-colored helmets were sold as individual collectible items on GameStop.com in June 2019.  This is the only model and color being recalled. 

Q. Are there other Fallout Power Armor Helmets being recalled?

A.  No other models or colors of the Power Armor Helmets are being recalled.  For example, the Fallout 76 Power Armor Edition helmets, which have a gun-metal or grey color painted finish and gray or black colored exterior tubing around the sides, and which were sold as part of a bundle with a video game and other collectible items, are not being recalled. 

Q. How do I participate in the recall?

A.  Please contact us at 1 (800) 883-8895 choose option 3 from first menu and option 3 from 2nd menu from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST Monday through Friday, or by email at ProductSafety@GameStop.com if you have any questions or to arrange for the return of this product for a full refund.   

   

Q. What is the problem with my Product?

A. We ask that you stop using this product as mold can be present on the fabric inside the helmet, posing a risk of respiratory or other infections in individuals with compromised immune systems, damaged lungs or an allergy to mold; however, we have not received any reports of injury.

 

Q. My product appears to be okay. Can I continue to use it?

A. No.  We are asking all customers to stop using the product and participate in the recall by contacting us for a refund.  Please note that it is not safe to continue to use a recalled product. 

 

Q. Will I receive a refund for the product?

A. Yes.  We will be providing a refund for return of the recalled products.  You will be provided with a prepaid shipping label and carton to return the products to GameStop at no cost to you.  Upon receipt of the returned product, you will receive a full refund of the purchase price plus any applicable taxes paid. 

Q.  How many products were sold? 

A.  Approximately 32 units of the Fallout 1:1 T-51 Power Armor Nuka Cola Helmets were sold in June 2019.   

Q.  Has anyone been hurt due to this problem?

A. No. There have not been any injuries reported.   

Q.  Are any other types of products involved in this recall?

A.  No.

 

Q.  Where were the products manufactured?

A.  The products were manufactured in China.

 

Q.  Did the Consumer Product Safety Commission require Chronicle LLC or GameStop to recall these products?

A.  This is a voluntary product recall in conjunction with the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

Q.  How will you ensure nobody buys the recalled products going forward?

A.  The recalled units are no longer available for sale. 

Q.  Can I return a recalled item?

A.  Yes, but not to a store location.  You will be provided with a prepaid shipping label and carton to return the products to GameStop at no cost to you.  Upon receipt of the returned product, you will receive a full refund of the purchase price plus any applicable taxes paid.   

 

Q.  Will you be administering any types of incentives to customers?

A.  No, we are providing a full refund. 

 

Q.  How will you make sure that this situation won’t reoccur in the future?

A. As a company, we want to ensure the safety of our customers and we will continue to ensure that products purchased from our suppliers are safe for their intended use.    

Q.  Were the recalled items approved by the CPSC before they were sold in stores?

A. The CPSC doesn’t approve specific items.  As such, these products were not approved by the CPSC. The CPSC’s mission is to establish appropriate safety standards for consumer products and monitor compliance.
