Mr. Scott Roman

Scott Roman’s career highlights his commitment to enhancing student engagement and learning, particularly in the field of economic education. His interest in education was ignited at an early age inspired by a family of educators.  Mr. Roman was born in Washington D.C., and at a young age he moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida where he graduated from high school.  He earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from Samford University in Birmingham Alabama.  He also studied Economics at Florida International University in Miami, Florida.

Mr. Roman began his educational career in Broward County ISD, Fort Lauderdale Florida in 1986 where he taught at Planation Elementary, Pines Middle School and South Plantation High School. While in Florida he also owned several businesses including summer day camps and spent a year working on political campaigns in South Florida and Washington D.C.

In 1992 Mr. Roman moved to Houston Texas to teach in Houston ISD.  At Milby High School he started the first Advance Placement (AP) Macro Economic program for a Title-One school in the district. In 1997 he started teaching AP Macro Economics at Rice University Summer School for High School Students. In 1999 he helped start one of the first state charter schools in Texas Y.E.S College Prep and served there as the Advanced Placement Director. In 1999 students from Rice won the state championship in economics and presented to Federal Reserve Economist in Washington D.C. In 2002 his students from The High School for the Performing and Visual Arts also won the state championship in economics and presented in Washington D.C. Making him the first teacher in Texas to win a state title with two different schools. Both schools finished in the final four at the national competition. His students made presentations to three different Chairmen of the Federal Reserve Bank of the United States including Alan Greenspan, Ben Bernanke, and Janet Yellen.

In 2002 he moved to Dallas to become the Economics Education Coordinator the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas. In that role he developed economic education programs for high school and college educators for the 11^th District of the Federal Reserve, which includes Texas, Louisiana, and New Mexico.  He also worked as a consultant for the Texas Council on Economic Education. In 2007 he returned to the classroom and to teach AP Macro Economics and AP Government at Richland High School in Birdville ISD. There in 2012 he taught one of the 17 students in the nation that received a perfect score on the AP Macro Economics exam.

 In 2012 came to The School of Business and Management to teach AP Economics and AP U.S. History. He was Teacher of The Year 2013-2014.  He helped start the Business Ivy Program that helps connect students to business leaders throughout the country. His students from this program have won the state economics competition the Euro Challenge in 2018-2021 and in 2023 and traveled to New York to compete in the national finals. In 2023 his students paced 3^rd at the national finals the highest level ever for a title one school. This awarded them scholarship money and a meeting with the European Union Ambassador to the United States Stavros Lambrinidis.
