Cancellation/Refund Policy

CANCELLATION/REFUND POLICY

PLEASE READ AND UNDERSTAND OUR CANCELLATION POLICY! IT IS OUR GOAL TO BE TREMENDOUSLY CLEAR HERE SO PLEASE PLAN ACCORDINGLY AND UNDERSTAND THE RULES IN FULL.

  • The race organizers reserve the ability to cancel or reroute the event due to unsafe weather. Race organizers will make the best decisions when it comes to protecting the safety of all runners. This means we reserve the right to adjust, cancel, reroute, OR reschedule as we see fit. Because the bulk of our costs come before the event occurs we will not be able to extend refunds to those who wish to cancel any registration, without exception. In the instance of biblical weather and/or a force majeure, we will assess things appropriately and fairly, to the best of our abilities.

  • Due to liability issues, race entries are not transferable, without exception.

  • Online registration closes 11:59 pm PST, Monday June 10, 2024.

  • Any registered runner who becomes pregnant during the months preceding the race is eligible to take advantage of our Pregnancy Deferral Program. Please email a doctor's note to us and we will happily honor the fact that you are bringing a new and beautiful soul into the trail running community. Rollover options are good for THREE YEARS. In order to be considered for our Pregnancy Deferral Program you must notify us ON OR BEFORE June 1, 2024.

  • We allow you to change your chosen race distance until June 7, 2024. If you decide to run a longer (and more expensive) distance, you will be required to pay the difference. No refunds will be given if you choose to drop to a shorter (and less expensive) distance. No changes WHATSOEVER are allowed after June 7, 2024 and you cannot be changed to a distance if it is sold out. Please note this includes dropping down in distance from the 46k to the 23k as the 23k is our most popular distance and will likely be sold out shortly after registration opens in December.

  • However, we understand life can get in the way of racing. We are able to offer the following credits: $150 (Triple Crown), $80 (46k), $40 (23k) and $30 (11k/VK) until midnight PST on May 15, 2024. PLEASE NOTE that this offer is ONLY good for the subsequent year but can be used in any fashion against the full price when registering for a 2025 distance. All partial credit holders are eligible for early registration for the 2025 event, which will occur in the second half of November each year. If a runner with a partial credit does not take advantage of the early registration, they must register when the portal reopens for the general public, generally in the first week of December each year. If a distance is sold out, the opportunity to utilize a partial credit becomes null and void and cannot be utilized in a subsequent year.

  • Please note that there are no partial credits for the Iron Face Challenge or Iron Crown due to the need to rent the entire Via Ferrata cliff face. Please only register if you are absolutely certain you can attend.

  • There are no partial credits for the Kid's Race. Generally this  is not an issue as the majority of registrations take place on race weekend and luckily, kid's are rarely injured!

  • PLEASE ALSO NOTE THAT IF YOU PULL FROM THE EVENT IN ANY CAPACITY, YOU VOID YOUR OPTION ON ANY/ALL RACE SWAG. If we have items left after the event there is a small chance we can stoke you out, and if we can, we certainly will. However, this will not happen until approximately two months after the event and we require you to email us if interested. The participant is required to pay a flat rate of $25 for shipping and we can only extend this to the lower 48 US states.

  • Please note that we REQUIRE that you email us your "withdrawal" from the race. Not doing so voids any and all rollover options. Online registration closes at 11:59pm, June 10, 2024. On site registration will be available at Palisades Tahoe on Friday, June 21, 2024 (5:30am-5pm), Saturday, June 22, 2024 (5:30am-3pm) and Sunday, June 23, 2024 (6am-9am). Prices for the 23k & 46k increase $35 for day-of registration and $25 for the VK and 11k. There is no price increase for the kid's race.

WAITLIST SPECIFICS

WAITLIST SPECIFICS

It is common that every distance at the Broken Arrow Skyrace sells out. However, we are able to get a LOT of runners in from the waitlist. In 2023, for example, we invited over 300 waitlisted runners to the 23k alone. As such, even if the desired distance is sold out, there is a high degree of likelihood that you'll receive an invite.

WAITLIST SPECIFICS

  • Your credit card is not charged by adding yourself to the waitlist.

  • The quicker you add yourself, the sooner you are likely to receive an invite.

  • Our waitlist is a ROLLING invite process. When a registered runner pulls, the next runner on the waitlist receives an invite.

  • Most invites are sent in April/May through early June.

  • You have 48-hours to redeem your invite.

  • Your credit card is charged upon acceptance. Runners are then subject to the regular cancellation policy.

  • All invites are sent by June 10, 2024. After this date you can assume you will NOT get into the event.

Transgender Athlete Policy

TRANSGENDER ATHLETE POLICY

The Broken Arrow Skyrace has always sought to create a warm and welcoming environment for all runners. This is who we are, and we will always set a high bar for ourselves in this regard.

In 2021, the Broken Arrow Skyrace adopted a Transgender Athlete Policy to facilitate the participation of transgender athletes in a way that respects an individual’s personal rights and dignity in regards to gender identification and/or expression, while simultaneously preserving the integrity of competition for awards and records based on sex. That policy was essential, given the sizable cash purses we offer ($50,000 across the various distances in 2023).

The Broken Arrow Skyrace is sanctioned under the auspices of the World Mountain Running Association (WMRA) and the VK and 23K are part of the WMRA World Cup. Because the WMRA is an affiliate organization of World Athletics, the international governing body for track and field, we are obliged to abide by their Eligibility Requirements for Transgender Athletes policy, which went into effect on March 31, 2023. A link to those policies can be found here (at the bottom of the page).

This year, the Broken Arrow Skyrace is launching a new division for athletes who identify as non-binary. We believe this is essential to upholding that inclusive environment we strive to create and act as a counterweight to the World Athletics mandated Transgender Policy. We will have a new podium category, with prizes for the top three non-binary finishers in the VK, 11K, 23K, and 46K events as well as the Triple Crown. Because of the smaller size of the field in this division, we are not offering prize money for the non-binary division at this time.

We recognize that there are a variety of perspectives on these issues. The Broken Arrow Skyrace team is fully committed to supporting the LGBTQIA+ Community and the rights of all humans.

These policies are in effect for the 2024 Broken Arrow Skyrace. We will always strive to keep these policies up to date and relevant to the current best practices for inclusion and fairness and hope to improve on them year-over-year. We welcome respectful feedback from our community, especially from transgender and non-binary athletes.

 NONBINARY ATHLETE POLICY

The Broken Arrow Skyrace strives to create a warm, welcoming, and inclusive environment for all athletes, irrespective of their sexual orientation, gender identity, or designation.

The Broken Arrow Skyrace is proud to pioneer the establishment of a competitive nonbinary division, hopefully setting a precedent for other trail-running events. This official recognition is a crucial first step in ensuring that nonbinary athletes, whether elite or recreational, feel not just safe and welcomed but truly celebrated and included in our community.

In 2024, the Broken Arrow Skyrace will award $60,000 of prize money to the top runners in the 46K, 23K, and VK distances. Consistent with previous years, no prize money will be awarded for the Iron Face Challenge, 11K, 18K, Triple Crown, Iron Crown, or Kid’s Race.

Beginning in 2024, the Broken Arrow Skyrace will offer prize money for elite nonbinary athletes at a level consistent with the men’s and women’s divisions. However, because of the smaller field size and a desire to ensure that prize money is limited to athletes competing at the very highest levels, non-binary athletes must meet the performance thresholds to be eligible for prize money:

  • 46K: 5:06:20

  • 23K: 2:19:55

  • VK: 53:13

  • Nonbinary athletes must also register for the nonbinary division to be eligible for prize money. In doing so, they relinquish their eligibility for prize money or awards in other divisions (including age group awards).

  • Nonbinary athletes who finish on the podium but do not qualify for prize money will be recognized with trophies. The top three podium finishers will also receive guaranteed (and complimentary) entry to the 2025 Broken Arrow Skyrace, and all podium finishers will receive a prize package (gear).

  • Because the 23K and VK events are sanctioned by the World Mountain Running Association (World Athletics) and are a part of the Mountain Running World Cup, nonbinary athletes will not be eligible for World Cup points. The Broken Arrow Skyrace will continue to advocate for the equitable inclusion of nonbinary athletes in future World Athletics events.

  • This is a first step toward what we hope will become a thriving and competitive nonbinary division in the future. We intend to review this policy every year and—in consultation with our Advisory Council—update the policy as this space continues to evolve and as new best practices emerge

DRUG TESTING POLICY

  • All athletes who participate in any Broken Arrow distance, which could include National Championships, Team USA competitions, international series (such as World Mountain Running Association and/or Golden Trail Series) are subject to drug testing performed by the US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) in accordance with the USADA Protocol for Olympic and Paralympic Movement Testing.

  • As an independent race organization, this is extremely expensive. Regardless, we are ardent supporters of the clean sport movement and will always strive for excellence and fairness for all athletes at the Broken Arrow Skyrace.
