Well, I have to report I am 70hrs played so far on Xbox and I am loving this game. Forgive the pun but there is oceans of content. I am very much in the endgame now with a ship I am proud of and I am still enjoying the game and looking forward to Season 1 launching in a few days.
Don't let other people who have absolutely zero experience of this game put you off.
So let's start with something obvious to help people avoid a big pitfall. This game is 100% ONLINE. That means you need the internet (fair enough) AND Xbox Live/PS Plus even to play single player.
Now it's not unusual for games to need the internet and a subscription for the multiplayer element. But for the single player? Come on Ubisoft, even other clunkers recently don't do that.
As for the game itself. I played it for a few hours and it's getting sold on asap, I wish I hadn't unsealed it.
The graphics are beautiful, it looks lovely sailing around in your ship. The customisation options are also nice and the world has some good potential.
But...that's where it ends for me. The gameplay is a bit meh honestly. The mini games are repetitive and the combat feels stale and long winded. You could be blasting away in the same way over and over for ages with nothing fulfilling to show for it.
There are also bugs, which is something all of us are getting used to with these full price betas. It's been in development for so long I expected less in my first few hours. My ship got stuck at one point and I had to restart the whole game.
If I wasn't on a xbox ultimate trial right now this would have gone right back in it's sealed state due to the requirement to play single player ONLINE. I'm a little sad I gave it a go honestly as it was so dissapointing.
