I was planning to buy the game on release, but I'm glad I held off as I heard it had a rocky launch with poor frame rates and crashes. The latest update seems to have fixed all of that as I've not experienced any crashes, and the frame rate is consistently smooth on PS5.The game looks amazing and feels great to play. If you're a Dark Souls fan you'll be right at home with Lords of the Fallen 2, it's a familiar set up but with some interesting mechanics that set it apart from other Soulslikes. I highly recommend this game, I picked it up here for around £20 which is a bargain for such a good game.

Yes, it did at first have some bugs, but patches sorted everything for me. Has a few framerate stutters infrequently, but not unlike a few recent games of late. Game itself is great, fairly challenging, not souls challenging, but enough. Looks nice too and dual layered levels is a fantastic new addition.
I’m in the final area of my first play through, so feel it’s time to write a review.
Firstly, it does have performance issues. It’s never crashed for me, it’s just frame stutter and texture load in. The later in the game you get the more apparent they become. But, the developers are actively trying to fix it, and updates are coming regularly, so there’s definitely hope.
That being said, I love this game so much, even with the issues. The world is AMAZING! And there are so many build opportunities, armour sets etc, it’s crazy! It’s brutally difficult in places, but it’s never put me off.
After playing for over 50 hours I’m still having a blast! I already know I’m going to end up with more hours in this than any other soulslike.
Without the issues it would be a 5 star game, for me personally. But each to their own, do your research and decide if the issues and play style and things you can live with. If you’re worried then just wait for future patches.
For me though, I don’t regret the purchase one bit! :)
Was so looking forward to this coming out; pre-ordered it – but due to finishing a few other games first, didn’t get around to playing it until just before Christmas – by which point most of the bugs had been ironed out.
After 80 hours playing, I think it’s safe to give 5 Stars. Taking my time with it, and loving the atmosphere. “Going Umbral” reminds me of Alice: Madness Returns (another of my favourite games), but with soooo much more threat.
Having completed most From Software games, I’m now starting to believe this isn’t just a mere Soulslike….it’s get everything you’d want from Dark Souls 4 or Bloodborne 2; full of the Eldritch horror the latter would entail. Which, being an elder goth, reminds me of two great bands; one of whom pretty much patented the genre – The Sisters of Mercy. And then along came Fields of the Nephilim, taking the same blueprint and then going into deeper, darker directions.
The devs should be proud of this. To take the Soulsborne formula, to make a game SO similar both in gameplay, and graphics… (which are stunning) and then to make it your own is a credit to them. And yes, nearly gave up at the first boss. Pieta is *hard*. So’s the Hushed Saint. After that, it gets more manageable; you find ways around things… given the weapon choices, there’s always something that’ll do the job; you just have to find it.
I was sceptical about buying this game because of other poor reviews, but after biting the bullet and doing so anyway, I realised just how wrong those poor reviews were, and just how good this game really is.
I am a huge fan of souls games and after pumping 200+ hours into Elden Ring, I was struggling to find something that gave me the same level of challenge, excitement and exploration. I tried Demon Souls, and that was ok. But LOTF? This game has come through giving me exactly what I was looking for.
YES.. there’s the occasional frame stutter, but does it warrant a bad review? Absolutely not.
This game is vast with a lot of different enemies in both worlds, aswell as the opportunity to build a class to suit your preferences - there really is endless opportunities to tackle the game and I feel the game can be played in many different ways. I’m 40 hours in and will likely be playing this for a very long time.
Great game and some of the best current gen graphics I’ve seen. If you like Dark Souls I think you’d also love this. Sure, it’s similar but it also has plenty of new mechanics added like the switching world between living and dead mechanic which is excellent. This also adds some clever puzzles which I liked.
I had read some average reviews about this game but these were mostly about the frame rates etc but these seem to been patched out now as I’ve had it looking and running beautifully on PS5 but I use the performance mode only.
I’m having a great time with the game and for the price it is now, it’s an absolute bargain for a big game
