The Sack of Vengerberg took place in late July 1267, after the capitulation of Lyria and Rivia at the beginning of the Second Northern War; following Rivia's fall, Field Marshall Menno Coehoorn marched north on Aldersberg and Vengerberg.[1]

History[]

After the Imperial occupation of Rivia, the army of Lyria commanded by Queen Meve and the army of Aedirn commanded by King Demavend III faced the Nilfgaardian Army commanded by Coehoorn, Elan Trahe, and Markus Braibant at the First Battle of Alderberg. Nilfgaard, being aided by mercenaries from Metinna, Vicovaro, Etolia, Maecht, Geso, and Ebbing, helped lead to a decisive defeat for Meve and Demavend's troops who were forced to retreat, leaving the city of Vengerberg without defense.[1]

After being besieged for six days, Vengerberg was conquered by the Nilfgaardians, who slaughtered almost 6,000 people split between the civilian population and guards. Those who were able to survive the siege tried to escape towards the border with Temeria, helped by reinforcements from the Aedirnian Special Forces commanded by Rayla. The Nilfgaardians, using Scoia'tael as vanguard, chased the fugitives in order to enslave them. Thanks to Rayla and her troops, a few citizens of Vengerberg managed to escape, although most of her unit was killed by Scoia'tael during the evacuation.
