Geralt[N 1] was a witcher and ronin who lived in the Japanese-inspired land. He had a daughter Ciri and partner Yennefer.[1]
Biography[]
At some point, the Hyakki Yagyō, led by Eredin Bréacc Glas, kidnapped Ciri. Geralt followed their trail until he saw a vision of the specter. After killing some kappa, he came to a village and took a contract for the creatures, a ryo a head. After finding some more of the creatures nearby in a swamp who acted friendly, he followed them to a cave and came across a tatsu - a water spirit and guardian of the swamp. The yōkai explained the villagers simply wanted to build a dam and drain the precious water the creatures needed, so the witcher gave them peace stating he would stop the villagers plans of construction. Geralt asked about Eredin and while the tatsu didn't know her location, directed her to the north, to a logger who lived just below Mount Kaijinzan. Geralt first returned to the village and declined the contract, and then left for the mountain.
When he reached Tasuke's house, he asked about Eredin and the logger said of how he had seen her but before revealing where, asked Geralt to clear the tengu guarding his wife's grave. After Geralt did this and retrieved its sword, Tasuke told of how he had seen Eredin in the snow and fallen madly in love, raging against the blizzard to follow her. When his wife had followed him on the second day of his search for the yuki onna, she started accusing him of infidelity, and so the logger gutter and buried his wife, telling people she had died from the cold. Despite this story, Geralt surmised the only words Eredin had said to Tasuke, involving The Spring Bird, in inn on the west track, and so he beat up the man and headed there.
Once he reached the luxurious inn, a young beautiful innkeeper greeted him and took him to the hot springs to bathe with the local monkeys, the inn's only guests. She offered him every hospitality, including undressing to sleep with him. Luckily for Geralt, he hadn't let his guard completely down. The yamanba revealed her true form and attacked him with the help of a sarugami, both of which the witcher managed to kill. He then walked up the mountain, following a maneki neko to a cat shrine where he bowed to the statues, and then set off. At a certain point, he started to hear Ciri's calling voice, which turned out to be yukinko mocking her. The yōkai attacked him and, after they were dispatched, Geralt run up the path to a temple to find Eredin.
Eredin told him that she had taken Ciri over the Golden Bridge, though him knowing did not matter as she would kill him there. As they began to fight with Eredin aided by more yukinko, Geralt started to get beaten down. Eventually a friendly nekomata appeared and threw a shuriken at Eredin, making him drop Ciri's sword, which Geralt quickly grabbed and the two fled. The nekomata left him once he reached the local village, and then Geralt reunited with Yennefer, the two vowing to cross the Golden Bridge to find her.[1]
