Dairida was a Gemmeran coastal duchess living in the second half of the 12th century.[1]

Biography[]

Imprisonment[]

She was imprisoned in the Tower of the Winds by her brother-in-law, duke Ponderic, after he killed her husband, Wodaric. There she gave birth to Dragonfly and a son, and tattooed a map of Gemmera leading to the Coram Agh Tera shrine onto their backs. She could never escape, losing her mind within the walls of her cell, eventually passing away.[1]

Legacy[]

Around 15 years after her imprisonment, her son, the unnamed prince, visited the Tower and couldn't find anything that may have belonged to Dairida; the place looked abandoned. Only with keen eyes could he notice the traces of writing on the walls, floors and ceiling, that spelled a nursery rhyme.

In this seemingly crazy rhyme, the prince found a clue that would help him fight Ponderic later on - in her prison Dairida gave birth to Wodaryk's daughter and trusted destiny to keep her safe. Later on, the prince found his sister, Dragonfly, safe in Stygga Castle among the witchers of the School of the Cat.[1]
