Council of Wizards

Council of Wizards,^[3] Supreme Council of Sorcerers,^[1][2] Council of Mages,^[2] or simply the Council, was the lower chamber within the Brotherhood of Sorcerers but still held considerable power among them and consisted of five members.

During the Thanedd coup, its members were split on all sides: Yennefer and Carduin remained neutral, Fercart sided with Nilfgaard, and Radcliffe and Philippa helped the North.^[4]

Fall of the council[]

On June 30th 1267, the Council and the Chapter of the Gift and the Art all assembled for the Grand Mage's Conclave on Thanedd Island, and socialized during the night before heading off to sleep. However the northern supporters, led by Philippa, who'd learned of the betrayal beforehand, stayed up and set their own plans into motion first, arresting all the Nilfgaardian supporters, like Vilgefortz, Terranova, and Francesca, before dawn.^[4]

When they were brought to Garstang to face a quick trial, Tissaia de Vries intervened on seeing her fellow Chapter members handcuffed and not getting a fair trial. Philippa explained their deceit but Tissaia also noted the northern supporters had acted similarly, revealing with an in-tranced Ciri the truth behind some of the north's actions. Wishing to remain neutral, Tissaia then removed the magic barrier around Garstang, hoping for a more civil outcome between the two sides. However, instead of a peaceful handling of the situation, the now freed Nilfgaardian supporters quickly began to attack the others and many were killed, both between the two sides and those who'd remained neutral. This coup resulted in the fall of the Chapter and Council, with many members fleeing north to the refuge of Redania, Kaedwen, Kovir, and Hengfors.^[4]
