Count Borhis di Salvaress was from a family who lived in northern Toussaint for decades and, while their supposed relations with the silver basilisks in the area may be made up, they adopted the kind in their family crest[1] and their commitment to protecting the sub-species was more than serious.

By 1275, Borhis was the head of the family and working to protect the last known silver basilisk, Iocaste. In his efforts, he even studied what generally leads to a species' extinction and became somewhat of an ecologist himself.[2] However, his chief interest remained in Iocaste and he went to extreme lenghts, whether it was paying off would-be hunters to leave her be, generously compensating families of those killed by the basilisk, or posting signs all over warning about the "Great White Terror" as she never ventured out of her territory and never killed anyone unless they trespassed into hers. Despite this, the merchant guild still tried to send their traders through these lands, resulting in the death of several workers.
