Paper Mario is an RPG and adventure spinoff series based on the Mario franchise developed by Intelligent Systems and published by Nintendo. The series started off as a spiritual successor to Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, in which the game plays as a more traditional rpg game set in a world of papercraft. Later installments would drop many rpg mechanics in favor of a more adventure type of game. The series was commonly considered the console counterpart to Mario & Luigi. As of December 2022, the Paper Mario series has sold over 14.34 million copies worldwide.
