- - - 📲🌍 "A vicious circle is preventing openness from flourishing in Africa" Members of the #FrancophoneAfricaHub at the #OpenKnowledgeNetwork are part of the 12th conversation of the #OKFN100 project. 👉🏾 https://lnkd.in/dGYZb_KE Since 2023, we are meeting with more than 100 people to discuss the future of #openknowledge, shaped by a diverse set of visions from artists, activists, scholars, archivists, thinkers, policymakers, data scientists, educators, and community leaders from everywhere. 🌐 This is our policy recommendation to G20 Brasil 2024 together with CNRS and Research ICT Africa: governing #DPI as a #commons, drawing from the governance of data/digital ecosystems and practices of commoning and co-creation from the #openmovement.
This policy brief by Renata Avila, Ramya Chandrasekhar, Melanie Dulong de Rosnay and our very own Dr. Andrew Rens was recently submitted to the T20 Brasil with the Open Knowledge Foundation. Looking at Task Force 05's subtopic, Digital Transformation and Platformisation of Public Services, this brief recommends the development of a governance model that can advance a #digitalcommons and digital public infrastructure. The paper contends that a commons approach to governing #DPI can help scale and localise data exchanges, improve transparency and accountability, reduce governance complexities and facilitate community engagement while safeguarding digital sovereignty. 📣 We are very excited to announce the release of version 2.0 of the #DataPackage standard. It now has a versioning mechanism, support for categorical data, and easier ways to extend the Standard. 👉🏾 Read everything about it: https://lnkd.in/dJbdTAne 📦 #DataPackage is a standard for data containerisation, consisting of a set of simple yet extensible specifications to describe datasets, data files and tabular data. It is a data definition language (DDL) and data API that enhances data FAIRness. Learn more: https://datapackage.org/ 🥇 This release was made possible by the relentless work of the Data Package Working Group. Together we also crafted a governance model that is explicit, to create an environment that supports new members and ensures project sustainability over time: https://lnkd.in/dDXS3heT 💚 The project was funded through NGI0 Entrust, a fund established by NLnet foundation.
