The National Saturday Club works to inspire 13-16 year olds through creative learning and education.

About us

The National Saturday Club enables 13–16 years olds from across the UK to discover their strengths and develop new skills by attending free Saturday Clubs at their local college, university or cultural institution. Attended by Club members across the academic year and offered in a range of subject areas – Art&Design, Science&Engineering, Fashion&Business or Writing&Talking – Saturday Club programmes are devised by professional tutors, assisted by students. As part of their annual programme, Club members also attend Masterclasses with leading industry professionals in their subject area, take part in a cultural visit to London, and show their work at a major public exhibition held at Somerset House, London. The Saturday Club Trust is an independent charity set up in 2016 to take over the development of the National Saturday Club from The Sorrell Foundation, which launched the National Art&Design Saturday Club in 2009. The Sorrell Foundation was co-founded as an educational charity in 1999 by Sir John Sorrell CBE and Lady Sorrell OBE, with the aim of inspiring creativity in young people and improving quality of life through good design.

Last weekend, we celebrated the annual Summer Show at Somerset House, where Saturday Clubs from across the UK showcased their incredible work ✨ This event is a wonderful opportunity to honour the outstanding achievements of all the Club members nationwide. We also held graduation ceremonies to commemorate this year's accomplishments. The weekend was filled with smiles, laughter, and heartfelt appreciation for the hard work poured into bringing these projects to life throughout the year. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who attended, the inspiring guest speakers, and all those who made the Summer Show a reality! To the 2,000 Club members, the 107 Saturday Clubs, and the 80 universities, colleges, and cultural institutions that host these Clubs - your dedication is invaluable. We are immensely grateful to the 400+ tutors, 200+ student assistants, and the 175 Masterclass givers whose support made this programme possible. Your commitment and passion have made this year extraordinary. For more highlights and special moments from the Summer Show, click the link to read the full blog post: https://lnkd.in/egpBxs3Y

Congratulations The Rt Hon Keir Starmer and The Labour Party on winning the General Election. We look forward to working together to tackle inequality in education and make education fair for every child and young person, regardless of their socioeconomic background. https://lnkd.in/gnXkRMDk    On election night we were delighted to hear Secretary of State for Education, The Rt Hon Bridget Phillipson MP, promise to “tear down the barriers to opportunity which hold back too many of our children”.     Today we’re launching Fair Education in 2024: Priorities for a New Government – providing the new Government with policies that prioritise, above all else, tackling inequality. We also look at fresh ideas already being implemented by some of our coalition of 300 members, and invite the Government to work with us all to develop and implement solutions together.     Please join us in sharing this as widely as possible, as we speak with one unified voice – fair education is achievable! https://lnkd.in/gnXkRMDk #FairEdForAll

We had the pleasure of bringing together Club tutors and coordinators from across the UK for our annual Tutors’ Conference at Nottingham Contemporary —thank you for hosting us in such a great space! Special appreciation to Professor Nona McDuff OBE, Pro Chancellor for Student Success at London Metropolitan University, who chaired our panel discussion on local partnerships and collaboration. We are grateful to our brilliant panellists, Amanda Spruyt, Urvi Nandha, Dr Rhiannon Jones (FRSA) and Alex Bird, for their invaluable insights. We would also like to give a heartfelt thank you to our keynote speaker, Shabna Begum, CEO of Runnymede Trust, whose powerful talk on race, equality, and inclusion in education left a lasting impact and was truly eye-opening.   Thank you to all the generous partners who contributed to the tutors' goody bags with special thanks to Cass Art and Bloomsbury Publishing Plc.
