HONORABLE MENTION: Giancarlo Esposito

Anger, grief, pain. Giancarlo Esposito ran the gamut on Parish, but it was Sunday’s season finale that teed up his best work. After Gray tracked his son’s killer to a support group meeting, the actor delivered an emotional monologue about loss that tore us to pieces. But after he found out that Anton played a significant role in covering up the crime, that’s when he absolutely unleashed. Parish abducted the man responsible at gunpoint and screamed a thousand screams, eyes flooding with tears that refused to fall. When it came time to settle things with Anton, the exhausted Parish gave him a verbal walloping for stealing his family’s chance at justice before letting him die in a car explosion. The actor’s steady glare in that climax spoke volumes, but it was the entire hour that served as yet another triumph for the consistently impressive Esposito. — Nick Caruso
Humans are amazingly resilient in spite of traumatic events that occur in our lives. Ramon Rodriguez’ performance on Will Trent this week brought that truth into focus. The angst that he displayed in his attempt to process a devastating event from his childhood was both visceral and palpable. I was certain I would see his name on you POTW list and I was right.
I hear Emmy bells.
I hope the Emmys do the right thing and start recognizing excellent performances from actors in broadcast network dramas. Ramon Rodriguez deserves a nomination.
YES,YES,YES !!! One thousand times YES!! Ramon’s portrayal of Will finally realizing that he shot Jack was heart wrenching. His portrayal of Will through all of his past life have been amazing.
Will Trent was a remarkable episode Ramon Rodriguez Steller performance.
The scene at the end of Young Sheldon, even though we knew it was coming for 7 seasons, was gut wrenching. The three actresses portraying MeeMaw, Mary and Missy seemed to be experiencing genuine shock and horror at the moment they learned about George. I’m sure it was a hard scene to film, but kudos to all three for nailing it.
YES! I hope Young Sheldon has next week a place here in this list. Last scene of the last episode was so emotional.
Kudos to Lance Barber, whose facial expressions and timing delivery in both episodes this past Monday, demonstrate his comic genius. So many Young Sheldon fans have embraced George that the character’s death was a heart breaker (even though anticipated). May there be some Emmy nomination love even though this is a Broadcast Channel show with a great show and actor!
No surprise that Annie Potts and Zoe Perry were so effective in that scene, as they’re seasoned actors. But seeing Raegan Revord be every bit as effective in that scene blew me away. Good job by all!
Congrats to all the performers, but not listing Danielle Savre’s performance on this week’s “Station 19” episode, feels like a BIG miss 🤷🏻♀️
I love Will Trent and Ramon so much. Truly an Emmy-worthy performance, though it’ll be a crowded field with Shogun likely moving from limited to drama. And Kaitlin – whose comedic genius on It’s Always Sunny…. often gets overlooked by awards, getting it the same week when she’s about to star in her own ABC prodedural? I haven’t seen Parish, but Jinkx was definitely a standout in those early season episodes of Doctor Who. Although between their orange hair, over-the-top outfit, and that NPH’s Toymaker was just referenced, I also couldn’t help but think of NPH’s incredible vocal performance as Music Meister in Batman: Brave & the Bold (nothing against Darren Criss who played him in Arrowverse, but this felt much closer to the animated/NPH one).
Also since there are not X-men recaps but I know quotes come out tomorrow, I hope we see the following exchange:
Jean: “Make them mind your weather, sister.”
Storm: “And them weather your mind.”
I was so excited to see Ramon Rodriguez as the Performer of the Week. I was crying alongside him. He needs to be nominated and when an Emmy.
That roast episode got me this week with Hacks. When DJ told her mom that she now understood why comedy was the most important thing in her life, the flash of hurt in Deb’s eyes in that quick second choked me up. They didn’t play it for drama, and it took me a few moments to even realize I had the tears in my eyes. This show is such a gift.
I don’t have enough words for how amazing Jean Smart is. What that woman can convey with a look. Amazing.
Ramon Rodriguez was incredible. By the end I was crying. I hope the Emmy’s recognize his incredible talent.
Will Trent has gotten even better this season. It has become my favorite show.
I agree. This is my favorite show.
Will Street was amazing but I wanted to say it’s fantastic to see a ZUL show get a mention
Oh dear my terrible typing
It’s amazing that Dr who, A UK TV show is represented for once
Ramon Rodriguez is such a fabulous actor! He deserves recognition for his talent.
Last week nothing for Barrett Doss… this week nothing for Danielle Savre… Two powerful actresses who delivered gut-wrenching astonishing performances.
My honorable mention would go to Jennifer Love Hewitt for her performance in this week’s episode of 911.
