HONORABLE MENTION: Antony Starr
We thought we’d already seen the scariest and most sadistic side of Homelander on The Boys, but Antony Starr‘s performance in this week’s episode took the character to impressively terrifying new extremes. During the supe’s visit to the Vought lab where he was raised and experimented upon, Homelander took pleasure in tormenting and killing the employees. Starr’s maniacal laughter as Homelander forced scientist Martin to pleasure himself in front of everyone was filled with mockery, joy and an unpredictability that makes the supe one of TV’s most chilling villains. And the unhinged chortling was unscripted, which only goes to prove that Starr’s instincts as Homelander are not only spot-on, but make the character even more fascinating and frightening. — Vlada Gelman
Great picks! I’m honestly shocked Anthony Starr was just honorable mention though.
Same. He should have been performance of the week.
Agreed. Starr was genuinely terrifying as Homelander in that fourth episode. Just the calmness in his voice as he tormented the people who had tormented him as a child.
I loved season 3 of Bridgerton and appreciate the deft work Coughlan and Newton did, but Starr was next level this week. He turned in potentially the best performance of the year imo
Chandler Kinney was definitely my favorite performer this week.
Love Coughlan and Newton – great choice for Performers of the Week!
Have to give you kudos for recognizing the stellar work of Coughlan/Newton. They have delivered the best spring of my life!!
I don’t know if he’d win, given the show and historical reluctance to reward certain genres (and just the challenge of find a defining Homelander clip you could play that wouldn’t need to be bleeped or blurred), but Antony Starr MUST start getting awards consideration now, yes?
He totally should.
Yes Luke & Nic!! Much deserved for the both of them
why do you never speak of Interview with the Vampire? The writing and acting is astounding. One of my favorite lines, “He tasted of vermouth and annihilation”.
Number 1on movie Screen is
OUTLANDER it’s on Netflix and crave, This is one of the most beautiful Land in Scotland, with plenty of great acts of Sexual content and nudity. A couple are married ( maybe not) but their relationship has been real. Based in 17 centurie keeps this alive. Very Real. WOW!
Nicola killed it this season. Luke was not even close with his performances.
