Did Lara's Father Go to Yamatai?

In the comics it's revealed that Lara's Dad was aware of the Solarii, and Mathias' intent to realease the Sun Queen. In Game collecting all GPS caches hidden in game will unlock the Hidden Message secret, Mission failed, where a man Narrates of failing his mission to kill Mathias. So I'm wondering, does anyone else think it's possible Lara's father went to Yamatai, and found another way off.
