The PlayStation 2's development was largely kept secret, though it is known that it started around the original PlayStation's launch in 1994.
Tomb Raider[]
After Tomb Raider: Chronicles' release, Core Design began work on Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness, which was set to be the start of a new trilogy. However the game's poor reception lead to plans for a sequel being scrapped.
In the aftermath, Core Design was removed as the primary developer of Tomb Raider and the series was handed over to Crystal Dynamics, who rebooted the series with Tomb Raider: Legend.
