Lara is apprehended.
On February 15th 1998, Admiral Yarofev was bribed by leader of the Russian mafia, Sergei Mikhailov, for use of the Russian Navy's nuclear submarine. Despite being unaware of the mafia's true intentions, it was nevertheless an offer that Admiral Yarofev could unwillingly not refuse. Also interested in what the mafia is seeking, Lara Croft infiltrates the Zapadnaya Litsa port and stowaways aboard the nuclear submarine. But Lara is trapped in the cargo hold and is collected by Admiral Yarofev, Leonid and another naval officer. Under gunpoint, she is taken to another room and imprisoned there under guard from Leonid and the other naval officer.

After the power of the Spear of Destiny is unleashed by Sergei who cannot harness its powers, the submarine begins to plunder. Everyone aboard including Leonid is killed. The only survivor is Lara who escapes in a capsule just before the Spear delivers its final blow.
