Istanbul, formerly known as Byzantium and Constantinople, is a city in TĂĽrkiye and the capital of the former Byzantine Empire. The original name was Byzantium when it was founded as a Greek settlement.

Carter Bell was researching one of the ivory pieces in Istanbul, when suddenly a guard tried to grab it, and fired upon Carter to get it. Carter ran away and called Lara Croft for help. When Lara arrived, they were chased by several men, who seemed to be possessed. One of the possessed people managed to get the artifact and immediately left, leaving Carter and Lara alone[1].

Survivor Timeline[]

843 - Iacobus was born in the suburbs of the Imperial City, Constantinople as the son of free laborers[2].

860, June – The Rus invasion of Constantinople. The Byzantine Army and Navy were away from the city, fighting the Normans in the Mediterranean and the Arabs in the Aegean. Iacobus' family is killed on the first day of the battle. Iacobus survives by fighting alongside the city guards.

860, August - the Rus retreat, and Iacobus is requested to join the Imperial Army. Iacobus having seen the atrocities of war, and wanting to find purpose in his life, join seminary instead[2].

863 – Iacobus, now a novice of the Church accompanies a Bishop of Constantinople on a mission to Kiev[2].

Decades later Iacobus returns with the Divine Source and starts a movement[2]. His teachings were seen as blasphemy by Roman Catholic Church, and Iacobus was forced to escape Constantinople to the deserts of Syria.
