Catacombs of the Talion is the thirteenth level of Tomb Raider II. The level takes place in underground catacombs as Lara continues to search for the Talion.
Level Design[]
The Catacombs of the Talion takes place in an underground cavern beneath the Barkhang Monastery. Before being able to enter the catacombs, Lara will have to traverse across a set of ledges that are filled with traps like rolling boulders. To be able to enter the catacombs themselves, she will need to find a Tibetan Mask in order to unlock the gate blocking the catacombs. The catacombs consist of different rooms that are pitch dark and only lit by a few torches. Lara will probably have to use flares of her own in order to see in the catacombs. Outside the catacombs, there is an upper portion of the structure that is connected by a bridge.
The catacombs are filled with all sorts of traps including rolling ice boulders and flames. A new type of enemy called the yeti is introduced in this level and appears throughout the catacombs. A few of the Fiamma Nera mercenaries have also made their way down to the catacombs, and Lara must try to dispatch of them also. While inside the catacombs, Lara will have to try and find a way to unlock the main door leading to the Ice Palace and the Talion.
