  • Ears Of The Killer
A new music scene is forming - it's known as "Crime Wave" and all of the songs are about killing people. Can BB and her sister ZZ outrun the New Wave, or is it true nothing can change the shape of things to come?
  • Heart Of The Killer
At the Dream Resort the days slip by quietly in the murmuring pines. At night a dreadful vision of desire stalks the halls.
  • Face Of The Killer

my main problem with the game is that it doesn't have a save feature, when you get to the later games they get longer, and i got stuck on geometry so i had to quit and start over. but other than that the game is flantastic.

(+2)

This is now one of my favorite games, thank you for making it (and space funeral to lol)

kinda reminds me of old 90s simpsons.

(-2)

Now this takes me back to the old days of the web, but with less slurs and risk of getting a pron virus after trying to pirate lego soccer. It's very comfy

So very glad to have seen this on a Vinesauce stream – it's some of the most Sunday Stream content to ever hit a weekday. You can really smell the DNA of Space Funeral all over this and vice-versa. I've had to excitedly show this to all my music snob and Weird-Menace-appreciating friends like I'm a cat bringing its owner gifts of miscellaneous leaf litter and dead slugs.

Probably one of my favorite games I've ever played. It's beautiful in a way I didn't expect video games could be. The writing is intelligent and brilliantly absurd. It made me incredibly emotionally and I still don't understand why. I love these games. I love BB. Thank you thank you thank you. If anyone is reading this and looking for a recommendation, please please please play this game.

I only recently learned you also made Space Funeral. I thought my opinion of your talent couldn't get any higher. You are one of the rare creative geniuses which enter into this world every half-century or so. I'm appreciative to be around for it.

Using Pop!_OS and the Linux zip doesn't appear to have a supported executable. I figure there may be work-arounds like using the WIN32 but is there a way to get the LNX zip's contents working?

(+1)

I'm also using Pop!_OS and the Linux zip works fine for me. Have you tried making the .x86_64 file executable?

Thank you for your response, this worked perfectly. I'm new to Linux and was unfamiliar with needing to fiddle with permissions sometimes.

this is maybe some of the most spernacular crambache i've seen in my life. Thank you ♥️

(+3)

Really incredible. Constantly one-ups itself, leading up to an incredibly heartfelt fever nightmare of an ending. Can't recommend enough.

(+2)

I'm glad I bought stock in Of The Killer early.

peak

In the end, we are all "Of the Killers" killers...

I cant claim to understand the broader context of everything but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Keep on killin' it dude, if you make any more of this I'll send over a pizza guy who will then stab you... with love! Or maybe he's just going to make you bleed a lot, either way, thanks for making this. It twas a truly memorable experience that my eyeballs will never forget

(+2)

You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll be pierced by meditations on culture's inescapable relationship with violence.

(+1)

really engaging, makes me smile. love it

(+2)

this game is interesting and fun

(+1)

this game brought me so much joy so many times while i played it, like eureka style recognition of something blah blah i haven't smiled so much all year. you are the people's hero for only charging $6 but i wish there was a button i could press whenever i had $6 and don't really need it desperately, so i could give you $6 for every time this game made me really really really happy while i was playing it... i bought a copy for my friend so that's a start

(+1)

I love the bonus rooms

(1 edit) (+6)

He's a pretty good killer but I think I still think Murder Dog is the head of the class in homicide.

(+1)

yeah but murder dog got caught

I'm having an issue on my macbook where text is cutoff. When I launch the game, only one resolution option is available and playing in windowed mode doesn't work either :(

hey, sorry you're having an issue! are you able to try downloading the non-v1.1 version of the mac app and then running the console command here? https://thecatamites.itch.io/anthology-of-the-killer/devlog/739142/notes-on-mac-...

(+1)

This is an issue with the Mac version's default aspect ratio. Going into windowed mode and manually resizing your window to be taller by dragging the corner fixes this (as of 1.1).

History is a drinky bird, continually murdering the water

(+1)

This is such an instant classic of a comedy horror series (for me at least). It's packed full of references and funny characters, with writing that is both accessible and thought provoking.

(+5)

It's the "playing Anthology of the Killer" thing. All the young people love it.

Everything is so absurd, and it all works together beautifully. The world building is so well done to where even a world where such bizarre and extreme things can happen still feels like it all makes sense. Besides a couple of areas where I got lost due to poor lighting (combined with janky pathing, pathing in low-lit areas is usually quite intuitive) or camera weirdness, both of which happened extremely rarely, everything flowed together seamlessly. I think that the Anthology really is a masterpiece, no exaggeration...I will be thinking about this game for a very long time.

(+4)

Simply a fantastic game. BB & the other characters are engaging, the soundtrack is fantastic, the world building is immense and I love the dream-like atmosphere. It reminds me of my own dreams that I've had.

It's a 10/10 game in my eyes & it gets my full recommendation for anyone looking at the reviews, it is absolutely worth your time & 6 quid.

I am definitely going to replay this at some point.

(+2)

been following since the gamejolt days and finally got a chance to finish the whole thing. incredible, one of a kind work. surely the greatest anthology-type game of the century

On behalf of a small Mobile game publisher, would you be interested in further developing your game with our Audio interns and developers to make a mobile game?

(+1)

Yes!

As always amazing series. Just wanted to post though: Are you familiar with René Girard's Violence and the Sacred? I recently read a few sections of it where he argues that sacrifice exists because humans inherently want to kill each other. To suppress that urge, society hence regulates violence to sacrificial victims, for whom there is no family or clan retaliation for their deaths. This therefore allows humans to fulfill their violent urges without causing society at large to collapse via an endless process of revenge. Anyway, something about that argument just struck me as something one of your antagonists would say while BB was tied to a table.

On a completely related note, I made BB look like Misty.

Has anyone had any luck running either the Linux or Windows builds on Steam Deck? Neither work for me in gaming mode, but it does at least load on desktop mode.

linux build worked for me on Steam Deck with gaming mode. I set the x64 as the target for the nonsteam game launch

As another Linux user (Pop!_OS) I can report that everything works fine except the video of the RPG Maker version in the Bonus Tunnels, which doesn't play in-game (I can still play in a regular media player).

(1 edit) (+1)

Been having a lot of trouble getting the 64bit version to work on Linux (the Linux build runs but music and textures don't load), but I finally got it to work on Kubuntu 24.04 using WINE on the 32bit windows version!

Steps:

1. Get a working WINE set up :) I used Lutris for this, running WINE 9.0.
2. Download and unpack the 32bit windows version.
3. Configure WINE's DXVK to 2.1 to fix the DirectX 11 error that appears. Set the start up working directory as the unpacked directory from step 2.
4. Run the executable under WINE 9.0.

(+4)

Extremely good game. Fantastic. Maybe the world's first ever real-time visual novel web comic horror anthology zine, and probably the best one.

I'm curious if BB's head is supposed to look kind of like a bird, or if that's just a happy accident. Like, if you take her bow as a beak, then ignore her facial features other than her eye, there's very much some Falco (Star Fox) type bird energy going on.

(+3)(-1)

Masterpiece.

Since I couldn't find somewhere else to report bugs, I couldn't seem to get the bonus rooms to work on Fedora 39 Linux, it would lag to a crawl as soon as I entered. Additionally, some overlayed images, like the script fragments in Eyes of the Killer, did not upscale to 4k resolution, remaining at their likely native resolution. This was also on Fedora 39(did not test if they scaled on Windows).

looks really good

i wish i could buy it though

(yes, I know about the free original versions but I'm not playing those. i want to experience it through this collection cuz it's the superior version)

(+3)

No but really, these are maybe my new favourite series of horror anything ever. Perfect artistic vision and I loved everything about them. So funny and beautiful and disturbing and inspiring.

Now that's some immersive theatre

What an incredible series. I'm blown away by the beauty of every single set and the slow increase in ambition from episode to episode. Inspiring and propelling for my own practice. Thank you so much!!!

(+5)

Merch when? BB stuffie WHEN??

(+1)

i ended up emailing stephen a while back and while i don't know how he feels about it currently, at that point he said there was no plans for merch

(i'd love it though, lol)

(+4)

As a long time thecatamites fan, I  can say this is easily one of their best, if not THE best set of games they've made. Avoid swimbofication, commercialism, and Death(tm) in this surreal masterwork. Now give up your money before you get murdered for it.

(+3)

This series has quickly become a favorite of mine. Thank you! Really hope to see more from this world and characters.
