Mandible Calavera[]

Mandible Calavera is NOT the name of the NPC. It's one of the possible names for the NPC. Just saying 50.34.204.197 23:40, 24 June 2015 (UTC)

This page is mostly for people who search the wiki for the info they see on the trailer. Once the actual name of the NPC is revealed it'll be pretty painless to just move the page. --KM100 (talk) 00:32, 25 June 2015 (UTC)

Official name[]

Official name is "Skeleton Merchant"

http://forums.terraria.org/index.php?threads/1-3-changelog.20617/ — Preceding unsigned comment added by Celestialghost (talkcontribs) at 01:30, 28 June 2015 (UTC)

Strange Brew not always available[]

Apologies beforehand for not having a login, but i wanted to mention, that in my experience with the 1.3 update, the strange brew did not show up yet on my map amongs the skeleton merchant's buyable stuff. --84.3.28.160 14:29, 1 July 2015 (UTC)

I can second this. I've found the Skeleton Merchant twice so far in an expert, non-hardmode world and he hasn't had the strange brew either time. VelocityCubeR (talk) 17:43, 1 July 2015 (UTC)

it isnt always available because u probably found him on the waning/waxing gibbeous/crescent. the strange brew (restores 80 life, 400 mana) is only available on a full moon, new moon, or 1st/3rd quarter moon phases. !!Error: {{unsigned}}: Missing user name!

Stock partially refreshes when re-opening shop[]

Not sure the exact mechanics, but figured I'd put it here so someone can edit it into the page nicely. Only seems to cycle the glowstick/torch (into possible spelunker's glowstick/bone torch).

Encountered this on expert, not sure if that would matter.

Lifeform analyzer[]

Is this detectable by lifeform analyzer? FunAlways (talk) 17:02, 5 July 2015 (UTC)

No, Lifeform Analyzer does not detect this NPC and there is no NPC icon for him. MushaShukou (talk) 03:36, 6 July 2015 (UTC)

Torches and Bone Torches[]

They seem to alternate between the two depending on whether the time is odd or even (in minutes). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 120.147.165.171 at 14:17, 6 July 2015 (UTC)

"Immune to Monsters"[]

Something was certainly hurting him in my game just now; he got down around half health. He may be immune to melee damage but not ranged (or possibly poison); the main thing that was shooting at me when I noticed the merchant was losing health were Hornets.174.68.97.188 09:03, 19 July 2015 (UTC)

He's definitely not immune to damage from monsters. I'll remove it. Scorch238 the Insufficiently Caffinated (talk) 05:21, 23 July 2015 (UTC)

His type is "town"?[]

how can he be a town NPC if he does not require a house and does not persist after he is no longer considered "active" by the game? At least the traveling merchant persists and stays near a town during the day, but this guy? Surely there must be a mistake...--Macks2008 (talk) 02:22, 17 November 2015 (UTC)

Not appearing until Hardmode? Nope[]

Just got the item. Weird… he was showing Spelunker Glowstick… and now I just remembered that they appear in the day on a full moon… ugh… --198.244.98.123 06:42, 21 September 2016 (UTC)

It sucks! I remember having to check the clothier every single day for the princess dress to complex my collection EnderCake (talk) 15:49, 29 December 2018 (UTC)

Item table[]

Can somebody add that some of the items are exclusive to the desktop version EnderCake (talk) 15:47, 29 December 2018 (UTC)

It's not really needed as the NPC was introduced in 1.3, which mobile currently lacks. The banner at the top of the page should explain that it's esclusive to Desktop and Console, which also makes things that he sells exclusive if no other source is available. -- Murrayzero (talk) 17:13, 29 December 2018 (UTC)

i play on mobile and encountered the skeleton merchant next to a marble mini biome so u probably ignored the desktop/console/MOBILE This template is added to talk page comments who were not signed by their author.

Usage[]

While there are various ways to transclude this template, the following version is usually used:

{{ unsigned | <user name> | UTC = <UTC timestamp of the edit> }}

First unnamed parameter

The name of the user who added the comment. The $user and $username parameters can also be used for this. The template will automatically attempt to determine whether it is an unregistered editor via {{isIP}}. Use the $ip parameter to explicitly specify that.

UTC

The timestamp of when the comment was added to the page, in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). Alternatively, use the $time parameter to exclude the UTC timezone suffix.

While the first and second unnamed parameters can generally both be used for timestamp and user name interchangeably, this is discouraged. If a user happens to be named like a valid timestamp, e.g. Tuesday2024, the template might have unexpected outputs. Therefore, at least one of the two pieces of information should always be passed via a named parameter – the format specified at the top of this section is recommended. The named parameters always take precedence.

Notes[]

  • The transclusion format first specified in the Usage section above is useful for copying from the history of a talk page or from the recent changes. Beware of custom timezone settings, though! The timestamp displayed by this template should always be in UTC.
    • The "Copy Unsigned" gadget adds a button for copying {{unsigned}} code from the diff of a talk page to the clipboard, and it uses the recommended format. Gadgets are available to logged-in users in their preferences.
  • The parameters $UTC and $ip can be called either in full uppercase or full lowercase:
    • $UTC
    • $utc
    • $IP
    • $ip
  • If passing the timestamp as one of the unnamed parameters, then it will only be displayed if it is accepted by {{#time:}}, i.e. PHP's strtotime() function.
  • Passing a user name is mandatory, whereas passing a timestamp is optional.

Lifeform Analyzer, again[]

I know there's already a question about this higher up on the page, but that one is quite old and this is still an issue: The article now claims that the Lifeform Analyzer can detect the Skeleton Merchant, though from experience on Mobile, it cannot. What's the issue? --2057clones (talk) 16:17, 27 May 2020 (UTC)

On the Desktop version, his name is shown on the Lifeform Analyzer (https://i.imgur.com/spAhk0r.png). It might be a mobile-exclusive issue :/ --Pajama Day (talk) 16:49, 27 May 2020 (UTC)
It probably is. Sadly. 2057clones (talk) 17:43, 27 May 2020 (UTC)

doubting mage[]

I once found this thing. it was all black except for a white circle in the middle. it looked like the silhouette of a robe. It had the name doubting mage, it was looking back and forward really quick. I went to check it out. when I interacted with him he said the spider quote, and turned into a regular looking skeleton merchant named marrow mc gee. Any clue what’s going on? 20:59, 13 August 2020 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.19.168.228

Undocumented Spawn Rate Increase[]

Usually I don't like to cite anecdotal evidence involving RNG mechanics but I believe the Skeleton Merchant's spawn rate was drastically increased. I used to see him maybe once every 30 minutes underground. Now I regularly see him spawn within seconds of another version of him despawning. I've seen him spawn 2-3 times regularly now each time I fall down my Hellevator. Could someone check and compare the source code between versions to confirm? --107.2.104.203 15:30, 9 December 2020 (UTC)

I don't see anything standing out, though I might be missing something. His spawn chance remains unchanged at 1/35 from 1.3.5.3 all through 1.4.1.2. --Rye Greenwood (talk) 19:02, 10 December 2020 (UTC)

Happiness price changes[]

I can't figure out how to fix this so posting here hoping for someone more knowledgeable to wander by and do it. It says right at the end of the article that happiness was fixed on pc, not sure about mobile, but the note above his wares should lose the pc comment at least. ty 95.90.148.17 04:56, 13 December 2020 (UTC)

Fixed, thanks for noting! --Rye Greenwood (talk) 21:00, 13 December 2020 (UTC)

Spawn rate[]

Plase I need help I can't find him I have spent like 6 hours trying to find him.
Finding him is luck based (no not the ingame luck system) which means that your best bet is to continue serching for him (Remember to do so in the cave layer) or play normaly and wait until he finds you.

Code 1[]

The wiki page for skeleton merchant does not show that he sells Code 1 or under which conditions.
