Hey guys,
Today, we’re unveiling something special: Stranger Things Wiki has a brand new Discord Server! (And there’s a couple other things we’re announcing – it’s a triple-announcement bonanza!)
But, one thing at a time:
1) The new Discord Server
Though an official STW Discord server had existed for years, it was also perpetually understaffed and mismanaged – we’re really sorry about that, and we’re making sure that won’t happen again; it’s time for a fresh start.
Last year, the STW admins created a new Discord server, to help us communicate while handling the release of Season 4.
We’re now expanding that admin server into a full-scale STW community server : with this new server, not only are all wiki staff on-board, but we’re also appointing server-only moderators to help manage this exciting new branch of the STW ecosystem.
A Fandom account is not required to join the server, but all Fandom/wiki members who link their accounts will receive the special “Party Member” role:^)
It’s still very early days, so we’re keen to get feedback - please let us know if you have ideas for channels, roles, etc., and we’ll try to make it happen.
But without further ado, here’s the link to the server - hope to see you there:)
Onto our next announcement:
2) The Canon Hierarchy is now live
As of today, our new Canon system is now effective. This rigorous and ambitious new system will help Stranger Things fans of all stripes make sense of the expanded media. You can learn all the ins-and-outs of the system at the new Canon Policy page, and you can click here to see the new system in action👀
As stated in the policy announcement, the policy is subject to change and open to community feedback. If you want to share your thoughts on the new system, the best place is the policy’s talk page.
Our third and final announcement:
3) Merging the Histories
You may have noticed some characters lack a proper “History” section, and instead have dedicated “History” subpages. This split was originally made out of concern for overly-lengthy History sections (especially in regard to Season 1 characters).
However, as time has gone on, it became increasingly clear this was a dysfunctional system. The History pages were simply less visible and immediately accessible; as a result, the pages were edited and improved upon much less regularly. The History split also contributed to patterns of poor-quality edits on the main pages, such as over-inflated “Relationship” descriptions (attempts to create History section substitutes, essentially.)
To deal with this, we’ve decided to merge those History subpages back into the core Character pages. Hopefully, this will improve the wiki-browsing experience, while also boosting the overall quality of edits.
On top of all this, I’d like to remind everyone about the BHM edit initiative that’s running for the duration of February. I’d encourage you to read Lady Lostris’s post about BHM, which is an important piece of context that connects to the initiative.
As ever, feel free to drop comments, questions, criticisms etc. in regard to the various announcements we’ve made today.
cheers,
~TGG & the STW staff
