I'm not sure why people keep comparing player counts with SF6
Seriously, Tekken was never on the same level of popularity, it's a niche game. Quick search on steamDB will show you that Tekken 7 always had around 5-8k(11k during big updates) people playing. SF6 is a good game, I just don't understand why people are obsessed with online.

friendly reminder that the previous Tekken game (T7) is more popular than the previous Street Fighter game (SF5). T7 not only sold more copies but also consistently maintains higher player counts compared to SF5 :yeah_tk:

That's probably because Street Fighter players think that the latest installment is better, something I can't say about Tekken players given the amount of whining.
Then you should have checked the release reviews. Don't let the blackmailing with complaints deceive you.
because it is a clear indicator that not everyone is blinded by "tekken". aside from the gameplay, t8 has nothing going for it. for example, we are playing a game where we see the same characters over and over again and yet, the facial animations are a joke, even compared to a game from the same people but over 10 years ago. point at anything else, and it is the same ♥♥♥♥. meanwhile, sf has once again, completly overrhauled it artstyle, the animations are not reused from 20 years ago (we still have hellsweep derp, wtf) you can clearly tell every character apart if you would put them as a shadow and t-pose, all the online stuff etc. etc.
tekken need a new developer or atleast get it out of bandais and the other 2 clowns hands.

Which game do you want them to compare it with?
KoF XV, DoA 6, MK1, ...
all these games are niche inside niche and esp. for non singleplayer or casuals rather uninterseting with a very low playerbase.

There where always just 2-3 known fighting games around.
SF, Tekken and Smash Brothers, though Smash is nintendo different so all you have left is SF and Tekken. So people will compare them.
Why does it bother you?
If there is anything to brag, we got Acoomer in tekken 7 day one. In SFV and SF6, he is a dlc character! BECAUSE WE ALL KNOW THAT AKUMA IS A GNUUUUUU CHALLENGAAAAAAAH! NEVER EVER BEEN IN A SF GAME EVER! NOW M.BISON AND THE 4 GENERALS ARE DLC TOO! WHATS NEXT? RYU, LUKE, AND KEN DLC ON SF7?

Yet the SF sheep are against guest characters like Terry Bogard and Mai Shin Ran Myu! WTF?!

The less the merrier, I'd say.

that's not really true. sf was kinda dead until 4. sf will never have sf2 levels of popularity ever again. meanwhile t7 outsold the previous best selling tekken game tekken 3 which was a killer app for the ps1.

street fighter changing artstyle is normal, it's always been stylised. tekken has always aimed for more realism. that's also the reason for the silhouette complaint, because sf characters can get away being more exaggerated. as for animations, its easier to animate 18 normals, some target combos, and a few special moves per character vs the near 100 move lists per character in tekken. besides tekken has always had outstanding animation even if they reuse some (if it ain't broke don't fix it). it's easy to take for granted just how good tekken's animations are if you haven't played alot of other 3d fighters.

Because people who obsess over steam charts don't play fighting games or understand what a healthy community for one looks like
