I really like tekken, i really do but this game has issues. If youre a new to tekken you will have a lot of fun doing some heat ♥♥♥♥. Play with some friends and this game is for you. However for players that have played the older tekken this game can be a pain in the ass. Skill isnt that important in a lot of situations. Its a guessing game, get hit by that broken move or by the other one. You need a lot of nerves to play this game. The worst part: Devs dont give a ♥♥♥♥ about us. balancing is still beyond dumb. all they think about is money. Dont put more money in their asses as necessary by paying dlc content. Its pure greed by the devs. Battle pass was ass, costumes are from older games or were free in tekken 7. Buy the cheapest key and youre good.

I've played Tekken for years, starting from TTT2 and every subsequent game after; this is, by far, the worst Tekken I've ever personally played. At this point, I've clocked in over 200 hours and I genuinely give up on this game after trying not to. Here's what I'll say:

All of T8's problems, from what I can tell, comes from development decisions. Due to the development team's priorities seemingly lying elsewhere, we're left with a game full of hit/hurtbox issues, shoddy netcode and matchmaking, input inconsistencies, and balance issues. You don't have to take my word for it, you can just look at prior patch notes and see how often they have to fix these listed issues that came right out of the box with this game. Even the heat system and idea of "aggression" that was a part of every talking point leading to this game's release had to get adjusted and toned down because of how poorly their ideas were implemented. Movement, spacing, and genuine thinking has taken a backseat to mashing, armor, and mids whiffing due to getting ducked under (and yeah, mids getting crushed was a phenomena present in prior games, but not to this extent).

Tekken used to be praised for every character being viable, but lopsided balancing has changed things greatly--much of which comes from how certain characters make use of the heat system and how many viable armor moves they have. These universal mechanics play a part in making or breaking the strength of a character to a far too impacting extent. To Namco's credit, however, they've been adjusting this through continuous patching.

What I don't think Namco will be able to do is fix the sheer number of hit/hurtbox issues this game has. I've seen moves pass through each other, moves that should be steppable having obscene tracking, rage arts essentially teleporting the user behind the opponent and causing it to whiff, normally consistent combos drop due to slightly being off-axis, and all other manners of strange happenings that are hard to predict, yet are possible to replicate in practice mode. Though, even as I say they're easy to replicate, and possibly even fix, I have no confidence Namco are capable at this point. That very odd, and I daresay underhanded, business practice of adding a battle pass post-launch with no prior warning seems to be where their priorities lie. I'm sure they've planned out and are continuing to plan out more battle pass related content, whether its reusing old assets or creating new ones, and many of their resources that could be going elsewhere in this game's development are heading there instead. This notion could be just me being a skeptical and paranoid old man yelling at the sky with my fist raised in the air, so take this one with a grain of salt. The most unfortunate part is that Tekken has no modern competitor in the niche that is a 3D fighting game, so the whole idea of "competition breeds innovation and improvement" may never apply.

TL;DR - Tekken used to be better than this and it still can be, but maybe not this iteration. I think Namco has a direction with this game that it won't turn away from. If you have a casual interest in this game, you should try it out. If you have fun with this game, that's great. It's blatantly not a good Tekken, however.
