The graphics are mediocre, the controls are janky, and the plot was decent up until the ending where it was impossible to kill the final boss. Went to Youtube to watch the ending. Absolute garbage. Definitely not worth the time and effort. Rating: 4/10

Short but sweet, Murder House is worth a playthrough, especially when on sale.

With tank controls, low poly graphics, a single house that slowly opens up as you progress, and a climactic final fight, Murder House is essentially a short, streamlined version of the original Resident Evil. Where the expansive Spencer Mansion was in that game, here a single average American home takes the stage, and its familiarity, even to those who live elsewhere but have seen the types of films that also inspired Murder House, like Friday the 13th Part IV, Halloween, or The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, help it to generate fear. While simple, the puzzles are engaging and at times do require a bit of thought to figure out what to do next, and the constant back and forth through the house only further add to the horror thanks to the game's villain.

With no base enemies like zombies to speak of, the game's primary engine for fear is the Easter Ripper, the bunny suit wearing freak you see in the art. He's essentially Murder House's take on Mr X, Nemesis, or any of the Baker family from their respective Evil Residences, a huge killer that stalks you throughout the house and forces you to hide or run away from him. Whenever he pops up is terrifying, and Puppet Combo really did a great job with the character.

Beyond that, there isn't much to say about Murder House besides praising its phenomenal art direction. The section of the game that takes place during sunset in particular is a standout. Due to its short length, it might be worth waiting for a sale, but at £10 full price that length doesn't sting like it would if this were pricier. For a fun throwback to PS1 Horror, Murder House is a good choice.
