🧪 Harmen & Daan would like to share our learnings on the Darwin Assembly method for gene mutagenesis, highlighting its advantages for efficiently and cost-effectively creating gene variants that produce desired proteins. While we ultimately chose a different path, we believe our insights and experiences can benefit others in the field. We openly discuss both the method's strengths and the challenges we encountered during our research and experimentation, aiming to contribute to the growing body of knowledge in protein engineering and assist fellow researchers in making informed decisions about their own projects. 👉 https://lnkd.in/evKj2N89

👩🏻🔬 In the second part of our assay development series, we share expert tips for handling challenging scenarios. Learn how to employ "enzyme teamwork" when your substrate or product can't be easily measured, and discover the power of in vivo assays for studying membrane-bound proteins. We also address common hurdles in protein expression and purification, offering practical solutions to improve solubility and quantification. From coupling enzymes to using GFP tags, these strategies can help you overcome obstacles and obtain cleaner, more reliable data. Our goal is to equip you with the tools and mindset to approach assay development as an exciting puzzle rather than a daunting task 👇 https://lnkd.in/dkZPwjGA

We, Michelle Vandeloo and Jinel Shah, have written two blog posts on the art of assay development. The first one contains insights from our lab, the second one will contain tips and tricks on developing great assays. Developing enzyme assays doesn't have to be an intimidating task reserved for specialized biochemists. In our latest blog post, we break down the process into five approachable steps, from getting to know your enzyme to implementing quality control measures. We dive into the different types of assay readouts, explaining the pros and cons of absorbance, fluorescence, and bioluminescence measurements. You'll also get a refresher on enzyme kinetics and the Michaelis-Menten curve, with practical tips on how to use this information to improve your enzyme's properties. Whether you're new to assay development or looking to refine your skills, this post offers valuable insights to help you create scalable, robust assays. We believe that with curiosity and a basic understanding of enzymes, anyone can embark on this creative scientific journey. Read the full post to start developing your own enzyme assays with confidence! 👉 https://lnkd.in/efQk7429

Cradle + Google We're excited to announce our new partnership with Google Cloud, aimed at providing an unprecedented level of security for our customers' sensitive research and development data. By leveraging Google Cloud's advanced data protection solutions, we've created a secure environment that allows our customers to innovate with AI, without compromising the safety of their valuable intellectual property. At Cradle, we view data security as primarily an engineering challenge. Our approach integrates safeguards at every architectural level, from each Cradler's device to our SaaS platform's web interface. This sets us apart in the biotech industry, where many focus primarily on perimeter security and compliance. While we're adopting SOC2 and ISO27001 standards, we believe true data security requires more comprehensive measures. Our collaboration with Google Cloud allows us to focus on what we do best - advancing our AI algorithms and developing our platform for protein engineering. We can now offer our customers a user-friendly, web-based software that makes protein engineering faster, cheaper, and more successful across various industries, all while ensuring the utmost protection of their intellectual property. We're proud to bring this level of security to the biotech industry. 👉 https://lnkd.in/eZbrU-UG

User Experience Researcher - AI for Protein engineering

I'm excited to share a recent blog post about my rather unconventional career journey: "From Prisons to Proteins: The Unexpected Journey of a UX Researcher." It's a bit surreal to see my path from criminology to biotech laid out like this! From studying criminal behavior at Cambridge and teaching in San Quentin prison, to roles at Uber and Facebook, and now as a UX researcher at Cradle - each step has taught me something valuable. I'm grateful for the diverse experiences that have shaped my approach to understanding user needs in the complex world of AI-driven protein design. If you're curious about how a criminologist ended up in biotech, or how interdisciplinary backgrounds can contribute to innovation, I'd be honoured if you'd give it a read. It's been quite a journey, and I'm continually amazed by how past experiences can find new relevance in unexpected places. 👉 https://lnkd.in/e7wNfyJm
