Policy creation discussion[]

I'm starting the discussion here for the creation of the quotes policy. Once we've finalized one we can archive this on it's own where it can be accessed easily.

This was mini-discussed in Forum:Pairings and there are old stale discussions at Forum:Quotes, Romanji, and Naming and Forum:Quotes.

My last note was:

The majority of the quotes we have are probably not even proper quotes, they've likely been altered to a degree from what the original words the character used. And taking from fandubs makes it even worse. IMHO We should probably only accept quotes when they are matched with an exact citation of where they were used (Episode and percentage?, or Chapter and Page info). And to avoid people modifying that in bad ways, we should probably regulate that using another Namespace (like the Infobox namespace we have). Rationales on why a quote is notable enough to be included should be on the talkpage.

To be honest Fansub/dub quotes are just as needed here. The reasoning is we wouldn't be half as good as we are now without them. I feel if a translation is good it should be used, as long as it is of course, noticeable. And I feel this is my last contribution for the night as really must get back to work. use none and link to wikiquote:Naruto. let them deal with 30000 different oneliners —This unsigned comment was made by 69.237.226.162 (talkcontribs) on 17:24, December 8, 2008.
I'm with TheUltimate3. 90% of the material here comes from fan translation groups. Why not use the most recognized fan translation until the official licensed English(since this is an English wiki) version comes out. And for that matter, shouldn't that be our policy on any information we present?Memsochet 14:09, 9 December 2008 (UTC)
