#monolith #indiedev #gamedev #shmup #rogueliteWhat’s this: Monolith is a twin-stick, procedurally generated roguelite shoot-em-up. It has been in development for the last 8 months (and quite a bit of time before that) and is nearing a point where we finally have something worthwhile to show off.
What’s to expect here: This blog is going to be dedicated to the documentation of it’s progress, we’ll try to update it twice a week, maybe weekly, depending on the amount of new tech added in the time.
And you’re: We’re AlexMdle, PureQuestion and Arcofdream. Artist/Programmer, Programmer and the Musician respectively, big fans of the shmup and roguelite genres.
For now we’ll leave you to ponder the mysteries of the title screen and until next time. Stay tuned.
This time I’d like to introduce active abilities. They occupy the slot next to the weapon and are acquired alongside them, filling out support roles. Pictured above is invulnerability.
For the other two we got sofar are Dash.
And the shmup classic, a screen-clearning Bomb.
I think we’re getting close to touching up on all the basics. Here’s one of the few recent enemies for the road and until next time.
Monolith: After The End, an update to Monolith has been released!
Features list goes something along the lines of:
- 5+ new weapons!
- +3 playable ships.
- a hard mode with a new ending.
- hundreds of new room layouts.
- new items, achievements, etc.
- quality of life improvements across the whole board. (screenshots, steam cloud saving, unlock toggling, etc.)

Well, this was some pretty cool five years.
Along the way we learned a lot of new things, met a lot of really great people and were able to do something we’ve been always dreaming of doing.
I wish I could fully express how happy and grateful we are for all the people who helped and supported us along the way. Monolith might not have happened without all of you.
Thank you.
