"What-Must-Be" was one of the archetypal beings from the Fourth Cosmos who formed the templates of heroes and villains of the Seventh and Eighth Cosmoses. When the Cosmos was visited by the Defenders and Carlo Zota he took control of What-Must-Be and attempted to use him to destroy the other archetypes and bring about the next multiverse. After Zota fled, What-Must-Be became What-Can-Be he started the destruction of their Cosmos but saved the idea of Archetypes for a future reality and contacted Pilgrim the sentience of their Multiverse. Following the Fourth Cosmos' end, the archetypes joined with the Sentience of the Fourth Cosmos, later known as the Never Queen, in exploring the Mystery.^[1][2]
