While Bobby suggests using his ice powers to create a spare tire, Rogue insists they stick to their agreement of no powers during their adventure. They decide to walk for help, and as they traverse the scorching landscape, Bobby can't help but notice that something seems off about Rogue ever since she kissed Gambit. But Bobby also has his own problems, because a little later Emma Frost appears in his mind, teasing and unsettling him. When Rogue asks him what is going on, Bobby denies speaking to anyone, keeping his unsettling encounter a secret.

They encounter Wolverine, who intervenes and warns Creed not to cause trouble on the grounds. Storm eases the tension and convinces Logan to join her and Sam in investigating the nightclub massacre.

A heated exchange ensues, leaving Trish contemplating the consequences of her actions and Hank questioning her intentions.

Not far way at City Hall, Graydon Creed rallies a crowd, capitalizing on the nightclub tragedy to further his anti-mutant agenda.

Nearby, Storm, Wolverine, and Cannonball meet with Detective Jones, who offers them crucial information about the case. At the city morgue Dr. Chen presents an eerie discovery. The bodies of the nightclub victims show no apparent cause of death, leaving the team perplexed. Wolverine's keen senses lead him to a peculiar scent emanating from Dr. Chen, and he acts on instinct. A hidden mutant named Sack reveals himself, and a confrontation with a menacing green mutant named Vessel ensues, as they claim to be part of Gene Nation with the goal to destroy human society ...
