History

When Sergei Kravinoff was a child, his parents were researchers at St. Petersburg University. On a research trip in the Arctic, an ice bear discovered them and mauled his parents to death. Sergei ran away, and the bear hunted him down, but he was saved at the last moment by a petroleum geologist who also happened to be in the area and shot the bear to death. This event deeply traumatized Sergei and made him determined to become the most fearsome hunter in the world.[2]

After V-Day, Kraven became the enforcer for Lord Doom, ruler of the Wastelands. He was also the star of a reality television show called "Deer on a Spear," where supposed traitors to the State were captured, placed in the arena, given a single weapon of their choice and a thirty-minute head start, and then tried to escape from Kraven. In the end, Kraven always killed his prey.[1]

When Star Lord and Rocket Raccoon landed on Earth in search of the Black Vortex, Kraven decided he wanted the Black Vortex for himself. He tracked Quill and Rocket until they found its location, then captured them and forced them to become contestants on "Deer on a Spear."[3]

Eventually, Kraven found the Black Vortex and went inside, intending to use its powers to become a god. However, he wasn't able to subdue his ego enough to submit to it, and the Black Vortex ended up tearing him apart.[4]
