Doctor Doom has developed a device that transports the Fantastic Four (and the She-Hulk) to multiple locations to do battle with various monsters and super-villains. One or two players (or up to four with a special adapter) can control Mr. Fantastic, Invisible Woman, The Thing, Human Torch or She-Hulk through various side-scrolling arcade levels until Mr. Fantastic is able to assemble a time machine that allows him to transport the team to Doom's tiny kingdom for a final battle.

• A big monster with tentacles from the first appearance of Earth-616 Psycho-Man wasn't named in the comic, but appeared in the game on the Psycho-Man level.

• The appearance of some Mole-Man's monsters seems to be based on designs of monsters from comics. While they were clearly unique in the comics and even had names, they appear as generic enemies in the game.

• The cover of the game uses a slightly changed version of Fantastic Four Vol 1 416 cover.
