Quote1 A cosmos without light and without mass-- But not without power! Quote2
Doctor Strange[src]

The Darkforce dimension is the physical source of Darkforce, being its own separate reality located outside of many universes.[4] The Darkforce dimension has no formal name, few known inhabitants, and no known points of reference[5][6] (though at least the Null Space and its Tree of Shadows have been identified within the dimension).[7] Its most obvious (and perhaps only) characteristic is darkness: not simply an empty place that has no light but a medium that absorbs light. This "dark matter" may only be what humans can perceive of an alien universe. Normal light sources are practically useless, and magical sources have limited range and power. The same absorption applies to heat and even life essence. Those who enter the Darkforce dimension without protection feel coldness and, in time, lethargy. Prolonged exposure to Darkforce in our dimension can have the same effects.[5]

It is a cold and empty reality which appears to have some sentience of its own. It's extremely hostile to those who come into from the outside as it forced the outsiders to infinitely live through their worst fears and memories, very often driving them to madness.[8] It and its inhabitants granted individuals access to their energy in order to tether themselves to the universe so they could feed on its light and life.[6][9]

History

In their early history, Skrulls and Shi'ar fought in the Null Space region for control over the Tree of Shadows of the Garderner (an Elder of the Universe), until the Tree's seeds turned one of the Shi'ar into the first member of the Fraternity of Raptors.[7]

Mayhem and Dagger inside the Darkforce Dimension

The Darkforce Dimension was the same as the Dark Dimension, where the sorceress Morgan le Fay was banished to.[10] It was the source of Cloak's powers and the realm of the Loa.[11] This realm is also known as the Zero Matter World[12] and Hell Dimension.[13][14]

Notes

  • It is unknown if the Darkforce Dimension has a Lightforce counterpart, as there hasn't been any implication of the Lightforce Dimension existing. It's been implied that Lightforce instead originates from the life-force of people.[24]

Trivia

  • Nightcrawler once believed that he teleported through the Darkforce dimension, and he does use the same process the other Darkforce users, but he in fact teleports via a different dimension.[25][26]
  • Neighboring realms to the Darkforce Dimension exist which have similar or familiar properties to it. The Spot draws his powers from a Spotted Dimension he accidentally connected to while trying to recreate Cloak's connection to the Darkforce Dimension.[27]
