A downloadable game for Windows

This is a Remake of the Arcade Double Dragon remade completely from scratch with the OpenBOR Engine. This is NOT a Rom or a Rom-hack of the Original Arcade Game.

The game is a mix of the arcade DD1 and DD2, with the addition of extra custom stages, extra weapons and all moves from DD Advance as well. You can play as single player or up to 2 players co-op mode, and you can choose between 20 different characters to play.

Gameplay and Controls: The overal gameplay feel and action is very similar to the original arcade game. You can climb up ladders and pick up tons of weapons. The game Controls and mechanics are the same as in the Arcade game with the addition of many extra moves from various DD/Kunio games. So all the moves and special moves can be executed the same way as in the Arcade.

The game uses 4 buttons :

    Punch

    Kick

    Jump

    Back kick

Special moves included are all from DD1, all from DD2 and all from DD Advance. You can watch the "How to play" screen in the game in order to see the controls for all available moves/special moves.

I'm so happy I found this game I can't wait to relive my childhood

Thanks for the video game.

I was surprised by so many playable characters, that´s nice. Also I noticed that some of them can´t grab weapons, some others can do It, It´s like if the character is too strong It won´t grab the weapons, or the character is too weak, with less brute force (ok, a girl character) can´t rise for example the great ball of steel. That´s a nice touch!.

Also the game moves are very good, without slowness, nice moves, I need to learn all the moves, I only uses punches or kicks or a kick with a jump, I can advance with that, but having more movements available I think I must learn a pair more of movements! The gameplay will improve I assume.

And well, the sounds, the maps, all is great!, I appreciated your hard Work.

I was born in 1978, and back in time I purchased the Double Dragon video game for the 8 bit computer MSX. And I liked to play It!. I never played the Arcade, and recently I played the Amiga Version with an emulator.

I don´t know nothing about programming, I just like to play. Thank You again maggas. :)

I've always loved this version; probably my favourite DD remake for OpenBOR. Love the new Marian character in this update!

For the previous 4.0.4 version, I actually made a private patch (for personal use, never uploaded it anywhere) that improved Linda with some sprite edits and code tweaks. With that, the original "blonde afro" DD1 Linda was a playable character choice (actually, the DD1 lady is "Linda" aka "Linda Lash" while the DD2 mohawk girl should be "Cindy", something I also changed in my mod, as well as fixing the Abobo-Bolo naming too).

It all worked really well, even the ending, however I am a now bit lost how to update my mod/patch for v5.1.1, especially with the new character select screen. Can you help?

Also or alternatively, I'd be happy to share my sprite edits if you want to make DD1 Linda an official playable character. I also made it so she can use dynamite and knives, as well as being able to performing spin kicks like DD2 Linda. For both DD1 and DD2 Linda versions, I added the ability to perform jump kicks, elbow strikes and climb sideways with more custom sprite edits. I added a bunch of palette swaps for them too.

Oh, and I also fixed Williams' sprites since a few had miscolored pixels held over from their arcade days!

Please let me know if you're able to give me a hand, or as I said, interested in using my sprites and new moves (the latter will probably need their code tweaked for the new 5.1.1 changes).

Regardless, thanks again for this awesome game!

Thank you for liking the game, but unfortunately No.

I specifically made the select screen stuff kind of confusing and hard to edit because i’m sick of people making minor edits to the game, then changing its name and then releasing it as “their” game without even mentioning or crediting me or my game.

Your intentions might be good but the problem is i can never know, so i can’t help with that, sorry.

That's a real shame. I wanted to share my work with you and everyone else, but mainly I just wanted to be able to play as Linda from DD1, my first video game crush!  :)      Sure, I can keep my work locked up on   my HDD but sharing is what OpenBOR should be about, IMO. I love what you've done here and you should be proud. It really is my favourite OpenBOR DD game.

If I was to distribute my "mods" (I was hoping for your inclusion honestly, so I wouldn't need to), it would be as a patch to your game that required your game, never just your game re-edited, and certainly retaining all your credits. I would never ever want to take credit for what you've done. These are community projects where people should share their work, but stealing credit is awful IMO. Too much work goes in for someone else to pretend they made it!

Sadly, there will always be thieves on the internet, but I do my bit to make sure everyone knows your mods are yours when I see them in videos and such!

Regardless, the offer still stands if you ever want my sprites and fixes to include yourself.

Well, i appreciate your good intentions but  that’s the thing, in OpenBOR it’s not possible for someone creating a “patch” which people can download and just “install “ it to the game themselves like you described. That’s not how OpenBOR works unfortunately.

So the only option is for the 5.1.1 version to be edited and shared allover again.  With which i’m not interested on helping.  And yes OpenBOR is about sharing things but that has nothing to do with it.  Me helping everyone updating my game with his own personal ideas and stuff would be the craziest thing for me or any creator  to  do. Just think about that if you were me.

Sorry man but you can play with linda on your edited version and be happy with it. As about sharing, sure you can still share your work with me and the maybe in the future i might include some of your stuff if i’m ever gonna update the game again.
Also by the way, sharing is what i already did. I already did share my 5 years of work with this game which you were able to play and edit. So since you are all about sharing, you can also share your sprites on the chronocrash forum so other creators can use them on their dd projects. That’s an idea too.

One more last thing, people calling their own personal edits for their own taste on a game “fixes”, is the most irritating thing for most creators including me. Just saying..

I'm a mod maker myself, so I get your frustrations, mate.

When I say a "patch", I mean actually that. A literal patch difference file made with something like xdelta that requires the player to download your game, and my "patch" file, and then run an executable that "combines" the two on their own computer. Think of how NES romhacks work. It's how many folks get around modding commercial games where there is no existing mod tools  so we don't have to distribute the whole game illegally. With a patch like this, you're not redistributing edited versions of the game. It makes the player do an extra step and is more work for the modder, but it doesn't step on toes of creators by redistributing their entire games.

I also appreciate how busy you are, and have managed to figure out most of the issues I was having myself. I was only asking, and certainly don't expect you to help every modder who asks.

The last point, the only time I said  "fix"  was involving an actual error in the original DD sprites (red   around Williams' face), not something you did, and the fact that Abobo is named differently.  Obviously personal choice stuff like changing a special move or adding ED-209 like someone else did  isn't a "fix"!  LOL!

Okay i got you before about the literal patch you meant, but that’s what i tried to explain about it. With OpenBOR games you can’t do that like you described with xdelta or whatever. To me something like that would be cool actually and i wouldn’t mind it but that’s not possible as far as i know. But just in case there’s some compatible software out there that can do that, i have no idea of how. That’s up to you to try and find it out, i have no problem with that.

Enjoying this quite a bit! Unfortunately it's broken on OpenBor 4.0, it is impossible to get past stage 3  because you keep falling 'through' platforms.

I have some suggestions:

- Have jump+kick execute the DD2 jumping forward kick, and jump+back kick the DD1 jumping back kick. Having it the other way round is counterintuitive.

- Make use of the DD2 sound effects . The DD1 hit sound could be used for punches and the DD2 one for kicks. Or the DD2 hit sound could be used for special attacks such as the whirlwind kick or jumping knee. The DD2 floor drop sound could be used for large enemies.

- Lower the should throw arc a little bit, and have thrown bad guys knock over others, like in Final Fight.

-  DD2 has a standing knee attack (forward attack close to an enemy that just got up) that is not featured, please add it.

- Punch while jumping shouldn't do a flying kick?

- The whirlwind kick should be executed by pressing both kicks while jumping?

Also padding the character screen with multiple Billies and Jimmies isn't necessary since they're just palette swaps, how about using the DD1 colors when pressing punch and the DD2 ones with kick?

Just some thoughts.

Yeah sure, like i’m supposed spend my time to update the game for for the v4 engine just for the sole reason of making life easier for those who wanna screw edit my game by using this v4 engine.
No thanks. The engine included on my download is the latest v3, is working well and is available for Android and iOS as well. So.. just use the included engine and problem solved.

Now about the other suggestions, they are very subjective and i also don’t agree with the them, sorry.

Thank you for your feedback anyway!

Thanks! Original has pretty bad slowdown on my setup so excited to try this.

So, if this is a fan game, DD: Revolution became official DD4, DD: Legacy became Double Dragon Gauden: Rise of the Dragons, then Legend of the DD becomes the $69.99 Double Dragon reset! :)

Anyway, thanks for this!  Happy to have it. Something to keep in my OneDrive, what with all my achievements in DDG gained and Trilogy bought and Antstream holding the JAMMAs.

I enjoyed your game, it plays very nicely on android. I was impressed by the possibility to play Double Dragon for famous wrestlers, it's very refreshing. I would be very happy if to the roster of characters would be added a few more famous wrestlers. (I might even be able to help you with that if I have some free time.)

By the way, I found your game through a video on youtube.... sometimes youtube offers interesting things.

Amazing work and very funny! Love different characters with different moveset... REQUESTS: 1) can you add VSync option? 2) when you die and continue please let player start choosing from last used character.

(2 edits)

Hi, about VSync, this is an OpenBOR engine thing, i can’t add such thing to the game itself. But the good news is they released a new v4 OpenBOR engine in which i think they added that VSync option. Just download the new v4 engine and try my game with it, it must be compatible.

About your second request i’m not sure if i would be able to do that, but for the time being is impossible to work on the game anyway since my Apartment got burnt because my crazy neighbour set the House on fire and i lost everything. So currently my only devices are my iPhone and iPad.

😖

Tested with latest OpenBor but shows some gfx glitches (misplaced fire animations in last level or character selection screen glitches) unfortunately

(1 edit) (+2)

Oh yeah, since they made changes on character models scripts it makes sense that the select screen is getting messed up.

Well.. whenever i will be having a pc again, i might then try to update the game for the new engine. At the moment i’m unable to know how far in the future this might be, sorry.

Amazing Xanks :)
