Midwives became first responders after Maui Wildfires last year, and continue to serve families in Maui and beyond. "When the disaster happened, our Maui partners called us and said, ‘we need you to come,’ and so we brought the mobile clinic here and we were able to provide critical medical care and services,” said Sunny Chen, executive director of Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition of Hawai’i. “That’s the amazing thing about midwives and nurses. We just do whatever it takes, and we adapt.” Watch the full video featuring Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition of Hawai’i, a grant recipient of Direct Relief's Fund for Health Equity, here: https://lnkd.in/eS9RUQf6

Hi Friends! I’ve started a new career in global health as Corporate Engagement Manager at Direct Relief. If you don't know about this company, please check them out. They are an international, award-winning, powerhouse of a charity - partnering with corporations to provide much needed medicines and medical supplies for humanitarian and disaster relief efforts regardless of religion, politics or ability to pay. They have one of the most incredible missions and teams I've ever seen and I'm beyond thrilled to be joining them. #dreamjob #globlalhealth www.directrelief.org

If you followed our activities last year, you might recall that we held International Nurses' Day at the Katuma Cyclone Freddy Campsite in Mulanje District. We relocated the commemorations from Mzuzu to Mulanje to support our fellow Malawians affected by the cyclone Freddy disaster. At that event, we distributed relief items collected from nurses and midwives and a lot of other well wishers, to alleviate the people's sufferings. While at the event, we were touched that there was a need for housing, particularly for vulnerable groups such as the elderly. We are profoundly grateful that Direct Relief provided the essential funding for the construction of these homes. Today, we are thrilled to announce that the houses, six in number, are complete, and we will be handing them over to the beneficiaries. Thank you, Direct Relief, and all the stakeholders who have supported this endeavor. Congratulations to the beneficiaries.

I had the opportunity on Saturday August 3rd to tour and a give brief remarks at the graduation of 15 students from a cohort of Medical Assistants from Laura Rodriguez Medical Assistant Institute in San Diego. It was a pleasure to see the Family Health Centers of San Diego use a grant from Direct Relief's Fund for Health Equity in 2022 to address a workforce shortage of Medical Assistants in their clinics around San Diego by creating their own education program. It is an inspiring story of innovation to address workforce shortages in healthcare while investing in their diverse community clinics throughout San Diego County. Congratulations to all the graduates of the program who took the time to invest in themselves! Thank You Pauline G. Lucatero RN, MSN for the invitation and your commitment to the program. #FQHC #HealthEquity #MedicalAssistants

Hurricane Debby made landfall in Florida’s northern Big Bend region on Monday morning as a Category 1 hurricane with sustained winds of about 80 miles per hour. The slow-moving weather event, now downgraded to a tropical storm, has already resulted in at least four deaths and is unleashing torrential rain, strong winds, and potentially life-threatening storm surges across northern Florida and coastal Georgia. In response, Direct Relief has been in contact with national and state emergency response associations as well as safety net health centers in the storm’s path. https://lnkd.in/empbPBTW
