Graduate Internships

The Smithsonian Libraries and Archives’ internship program provides graduate students in library and information science and other disciplines a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to work side by side with expert Smithsonian Libraries and Archives and Smithsonian staff to acquire the latest skills, knowledge, and hands-on experience needed for today’s information and cultural heritage marketplace. We are committed to providing paid internships, supported by private philanthropy, to expand the voice, vision, and perspective of the community and to provide the unique Smithsonian Libraries experience to those who might otherwise not be able to afford it.

With Smithsonian Libraries and Archives Education, graduate interns contribute to making the expansive Smithsonian collections available to all learners, regardless of age or ability. By helping to operate our existing programs or assisting in the design of new programs, you will learn hands-on how our large research-oriented collections are made accessible for a wide audience. Graduate students with an interests in outreach, diversity and inclusion, curriculum enrichment, and marketing of museum and library collections are encouraged to apply.

If you are interested in applying for a Smithsonian Libraries and Archives graduate internship, please look over the opportunities and application processes described on our Internships and Fellowships page.
