With the proposed changes in this PR, the "Installing WordPress on your own computer" section in the handbook's development guide has been iterated on. The following changes have been proposed:

  • A more concise introduction to the section, with less redundancy i.e. phrases like Use these instructions have been replaced.
  • The blurb alongside the list of local servers has been removed, as it felt somewhat redundant and almost like advertising in some cases.
  • Some of the links to the Codex have been removed, in favour of using direct links to each of the specific server's site. The goal was to point to places that are most likely to have the most up-to-date info.
  • Studio, Docker, and XAMPP have been added to the list, as these are popular options amongst the community.
  • A link to the Installing a Local Server tutorial in the main Core handbook has been added, as this appears to be more actively maintained and also links to some more in-depth tutorials on the specific options.
With this commit, the "Installing WordPress on your own computer" section has been updated to be more concise, to point to a related tutorial in the main Core handbook, remove some outdated links, and also add some popular local server options.
