🌱 Infinite Athletic: Addressing the Pain Points in Sustainable Sportswear 🌱 As we celebrate the launch of our collaboration with Tecnifibre, it's crucial to revisit the genesis of the Infinite Athletic project. 💡 It all began with the chance encounter of the three co-founders during their previous roles in a textile company. This experience served as a profound eye-opener, revealing the stark linearity of the textile supply chain. We realized that to truly make a difference, we needed to start from the very source: the materials. Acting upstream in the supply chain allows us to have a greater impact downstream. For instance, integrating dyeing directly into the yarn eliminates the need for large dyeing baths in the fabric, which are notorious for their environmental contamination from chemicals and microplastics. Additionally, this approach enhances color-fastness, ensuring longevity in our products. However, despite the growing awareness of sustainability, the textile industry still faces significant challenges. Garments typically contain only 3% recycled material, highlighting the need for greater adoption of sustainable practices. Moreover, a mere 1% of end-of-life garments are currently recycled, emphasizing the urgency for change. 💧🎾 Un año más, colaboramos con el Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell - Trofeo Conde de Godó desde AGBAR, impulsándolo como un evento deportivo de referencia internacional en la gestión sostenible y el respeto al medio ambiente. Durante el torneo, desde el grupo AGBAR implementamos un plan integral para fomentar la sostenibilidad y reducir el impacto ambiental. Para ello, hemos instalado puntos de distribución de agua del grifo y repartido botellas de agua reutilizables a los asistentes, minimizando así los residuos de plástico. 👉 Además, este año, con el asesoramiento de Aigües de Barcelona, el club de tenis ha llevado a cabo un proyecto pionero de reutilización de aguas grises y pluviales, una iniciativa que contribuirá a reducir significativamente la huella hídrica del evento. Hoy, también hemos participado en la conferencia "Play for the Planet" sobre #sostenibilidad en grandes eventos deportivos, para compartir nuestro enfoque para maximizar el impacto positivo de los eventos deportivos a todos los niveles. Delighted to have participated alongside Anna Cañadell from BCome. in a roundtable discussion on circularity. Led by Laura Franco Henao from the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, we explored various aspects of the circularity concept in textiles. From my perspective, three crucial factors are essential to make circularity a reality in Europe: Formation: It is imperative that designers and product owners shift their focus from creating merely beautiful products to designing with a commitment to environmental sustainability. Education: Final customers must comprehend how to interpret labels and realize that their choices significantly impact the disposal of garments at the end of their life cycle. Capacity: Establishing European capabilities throughout the entire supply chain is essential. This extends beyond the current emphasis on recycling to encompass spinning and knitting processes.
