Hi Claíomh Solais I understand your concerns, but . There were two main reasons why I removed them from the template:

  • Templates are supposed to be brief summaries of key information, and this one is getting a bit too long to be easily readable and useful
  • Genetics are less relevant here since the article (and everything else I've read) has defined the Gaels as a socio-linguistic rather than genetic group

If you can think of alternate ways to address these issues, be my guest. Cheers. Catrìona (talk) 11:28, 12 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

It is certainly relevant to the Gaels and should be included in the template in some way. The Gaels are an ethnicity (divided down into lesser parts such as tribes and clans) and there is a genetic aspect to that, but overtime some outside groups have become Gaelicised and assimilated into the core group (ie - the Norse-Gaels, "Foreign Gaels") but that does not negate that there is a group for them to assimilate into to begin with. I think it would be relevant here, but not on language-only topics (ie - the Gaeilge template). Claíomh Solais (talk) 14:04, 17 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
