Correct track length - 3:27?, 3:12?, ??

[edit]

The current version of the article has the song length as 3:27. This caught my eye as the version I have is 3:12 (and is not truncated). There are several different lengths reported at usually-reliable sites or actual label images:

  • [1] has the 1950 US Capitol 1010 78 with the length explicitly as 2:25 on the label.
  • This LP, Capitol 1010 (1950), is stated to be 3:12 though the length can't be seen in the image. (It's unusual for an LP and 78 to have the same catalogue number so I'm skeptical).
  • [2] has 3:12 on the label, also for the 1950 US Capitol 1010 78.

Most interesting is this link (from [3]) that has the time on the label as 3:26, one second shorter than the 3:27 currently on the article page. The catalogue number is Capitol X-6003. It is a US release. The label states "Originally released: May 1950".

It would appear that the original release has a length of 3:12 and an early reissue, possibly 1952, has a length of 3:26. (The "possibly 1952" is from a link I can't find again after Firefox crashed while I was researching...). I'll guess the first link with a length of 2:25 is a misprint. This was common enough to be plausible but I have no authoritative reference for this. I wonder if the "3:27" in the current article is round off/error from the original editor's CD or MP3 player.

I have tried to "be bold with my edits" when I have had sufficient backing data but I do not have such data here. I hope someone with more information can address this or inform me and I'll make any necessary changes.

After more research, it looks like the original 1950 version is 3:12. The re-recording on The Nat King Cole Story is 3:27. If this is correct, both lengths should probably be listed in the info box.

Can anyone confirm my findings?
