Criticism

[edit]

I've removed the criticism section of the page. There are several parts of it that are rather dubious and definitely need sources. In particular it needs sources for the following assertions:

  • "Critics of Burke Lakefront Airport contend" - Who are the critics?
  • "many of the 80,000 annual operations at BKL would shift to CLE, causing congestion and delays"
  • "BKL is a prime airport for new commercial service"
  • "Mayor Frank Jackson announced" - Anything that mentions a specific event needs a source.
Contents of the section

Critics of Burke Lakefront Airport contend that the land on which the facility sits is far too valuable for the purpose of general aviation, corporate air taxi services, and serving as a reliever airport for Cleveland Hopkins International Airport. The land, located directly on Cleveland's lakefront, could, critics state,[who?] be developed into a new business and housing district. However, such critics equate the lack of commercial service at BKL with an airport that is not essential to the region. If the airport were closed, many of the 80,000 annual operations at BKL would shift to CLE, causing congestion and delays at the region's primary airport and thus impacting all service to the area. Furthermore, as air traffic is expanding each year in the US, BKL is a prime airport for new commercial service serving Downtown Cleveland and the region.

Major changes to the lakefront and BKL are on the immediate horizon, as Mayor Frank Jackson announced that Burke Lakefront Airport will remain an airport and a development plan is being prepared.

Flight school updates

[edit]

I updated the flight schools which are known to be at the airport. I removed Premier Flight Academy and Top Gun Aviation which appear to be out of business. If anyone knows for sure that these companies are still operating, feel free to add them back to the list. I also added Zone Aviation which opened about a year ago. I added links to the webpages of the surviving flight schools.

Note that the new list does not correspond to the airport's website, which appears to be out of date.

Airspace

[edit]

I added a new section in "Facilities and Aircraft" mentioning the class delta airspace and radar separation for medivac helicopters. I couldn't find a good reference, but radar traffic alerts for medivacs seem to be a significant portion of the radio chatter from the tower. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 192.5.110.7 (talk) 14:21, 19 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
