[edit]

In its current form, this article about abstraction does not seem to describe abstraction but something similar to the single responsibility principle, Don't repeat yourself, . Another article on abstraction provides a much more accurate description, which applies to the whole field of computer science, including computer programming.

For a more detailed explanation with examples and brief definitions there is a [question in stack exchange] motivated by this article (among other reasons).
