There are four different roles that can exist in a family group. Each role can perform different functions.

Role	Age	Number per Family Group	This account can:
Admin	13+	1	Add or remove members from the family group. Children under age 13 can only be added or removed by an admin aged 18+. Assign roles within the group (parent/guardian or supervised). Transfer the admin role to another member of the family group. Adjust Nintendo Account settings for users aged 12 and under in the family group.
General (no Family Group designation)	13+	Up to 7	Leave the family group.
Parent/Guardian	18+	Up to 8	Assign the supervised role to a Nintendo Account in the family group. Adjust Nintendo eShop restrictions for supervised Nintendo Accounts in the family group. (Other types of parental controls can be managed on-device and/or via smart device app.) Leave the family group.
Supervised	Any. This role is automatically assigned to Nintendo Accounts for children aged 12 and under.	Up to 7	Supervised Nintendo Accounts can use the standard Nintendo Account features (Nintendo eShop, My Nintendo, etc), but cannot perform any functions within the family group.

A Nintendo Account can have more than one role. For example, an admin aged 18+ will also have a parent/guardian role within the family group.
All current members and roles in your family group are listed in the Family Group section of your Nintendo Account settings.
If one person in the family group purchases a Nintendo Switch Online family membership, all members of the family group will be covered for as long as they remain in the purchaser's family group. Anyone aged 18+ can purchase a family membership; they do not have to be an account admin.
