Complete these steps

What would you like to do?

  • Transfer admin role between Nintendo Accounts

Note: Only the family group admin can transfer the admin role. The new admin cannot be a supervised account.

    1. Log in to the admin Nintendo Account for the family group.
    2. Select Family group.
    3. Select Manage family group.
    4. Select Change family group admin.
      • This option doesn't appear

If the option doesn't appear, you are not logged in with the admin account. Review the other members in the family group to verify the admin.

      • This option is grayed out

If the option is grayed out, there are not any valid accounts in the family group that you can transfer the role to.

    5. You may be prompted to confirm your identity by re-entering your password, re-authenticating with your passkey, and/or by verifying your email address.
    6. If you have set up 2-step verification, you may be prompted to enter an additional code. Launch the Google Authenticator app on your smart device, enter the code it displays, and click Authenticate.
      • No access to Google Authenticator

If you do not currently have access to the app, select Use another method to verify your identity and use one of the backup codes you received and saved in a safe place when setting up the 2-step verification.

The 'Nintendo Account 2-Step Verification' screen with 'Use another method to verify your identity' indicated.
      • No access to backup codes

If you do not currently have access to your backup codes, select Use another method to verify your identity on the "Enter backup code" screen. An email with a verification code will be sent to the email address associated with your Nintendo Account. Locate the code in your email and enter it in the "Verification code" box, then click Verify.

The 'Enter backup code screen' with 'Use another method to verify your identity' indicated.
    7. Click Select this person next to the family group member that you want to transfer the admin role to.
    8. Review the information on the screen about what you will no longer be able to do when the role is transferred.
    9. Review the Nintendo Account User Agreement and check the box to agree to it.
    10. Review the Nintendo Privacy Policy and check the box to indicate that you have read it.
    11. Select Confirm change.
  • Set a Nintendo Account as a Parent/Guardian

Note: Only an admin aged 18+ can set a parent/guardian account.

    • The family group admin is under 18

If the current admin is under 18, they will need to first transfer the admin role to a family group member aged 18+. Parent/guardian status is automatically assigned to any admin aged 18+.

    1. Log in to the admin Nintendo Account for the family group.
    2. Select Family group.
    3. Select the Nintendo Account that you want to set as a parent/guardian account.
      • Parent/Guardian status can only be set to non-supervised Nintendo Accounts for users aged 18+.
    4. Click Set as parent/guardian to complete the process. The parent/guardian can assign the supervised role to other Nintendo Accounts in the family group, as well as manage Nintendo eShop restrictions for any supervised accounts in the family group.
  • Set a Nintendo Account as Supervised

Note: Nintendo Accounts added for children aged 12 and under are automatically set as a supervised account. You may find our information on adding a Nintendo Account to a family group helpful.
