Why does my wife's iPad emit a tone when charging?

My wife's iPad sometimes emits a tone when attempting to charge. The charge indicator (lightning bolt inside the battery icon) does not illuminate when the tone is being emitted. Changing the charger cord usually fixes the problem, but it has occurred with multiple cords. My iPad (same model and age, running latest iOS) does not exhibit this problem. I'm concerned that her iPad need to have service on the charging port, but would be open to other ideas.

Given your description, you would be best advised to visit the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store or Apple Authorised Service Provider (AASP) - where the technicians will be able to test and assess your iPad:
