Description

The search magnifying SVG icon seems to be missing an accessible name. The accessibility guideline requires that all controls have machine-readable text to indicate the nature of the control.

  • Milestone changed from Awaiting Review to 5.9.2

Hi!
The problem has been solved and the solution will be available in Gutenberg 12.7. Please see https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/pull/38136
I have added the label "Backport to WP minor release" to the PR, but was not sure if this ticket needs to be closed or not.

Please note that issues related to blocks, that can be reproduced in multiple themes, needs to be opened in the Gutenberg GitHub repository: https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg.

To check if an issue has already reported, you can use labels that match the block name, for example, the search block:
https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/issues?q=label%3A%22%5BBlock%5D+Search%22+

  • Milestone 5.9.2 deleted
  • Resolution set to reported-upstream
  • Status changed from new to closed

We reviewed this ticket today during the Accessibility Team's bug-scrub.
As the problem has been solved (and, as such, reported) in Gutenberg, we think this ticket might be closed.

When is this scheduled to be added to the wordpress core search block? I am running WordPress v5.9.2 and the aria label only appears if Gutenberg is installed and active. I am running a custom theme, not Twenty Twenty Two.
