"Remember me" label changed to "Keep me logged in"

I think the label "Remember me" to be misleading.

The default "Remember Me" checkbox behaviour is:

If checked your browser keeps you logged in for 14 days.
If unchecked you're logged out when you quit the browser, or after two days.

The checkbox function is not to remember the user identity, but to keep the authentication valid.
The task of remembering the user credentials is on the browser.

I think that "Keep me logged in" would be clearer and more consistent with other services around the internet.
"Keep me logged in on this computer" is even more accurate.
There are variation on the wording, like [Keep me|Stay][logged in|signed in].

Twenty years ago I would just have suggested to add a tooltip (title) with an explanation, but it has already been established in #24766 that title attributes are to be phased out.
Amazon uses a full blown popup to explain the function of the checkbox.

Although a totally minor issue I would like to have a discussion about this.

Introduced in [2733] / #379 for WordPress 2.0.

I think "Remember Me" wording may have been chosen because it sounds a bit less technical than "Keep me logged in", while attempting to convey the same meaning. I don't have a strong objection to changing it though, if the new wording is more accurate and still clear.

I vote for not changing the wording, not because it's so super proper, but because it's established. I guess there are hundreds or thousands of tutorials mentioning it and also there are dependent plugins like ​https://wordpress.org/plugins/remember-me-controls/
The benefit would be too small in my eyes to make a change.

I certainly agree. That's why I wanted a discussion about how could it be possible to smooth a transition.

But let's make a step back for my piece of mind, do we agree that the real meaning of "Remember me" in plain in English is "Keep me logged in on this computer for 14 days"?

I don't agree:
"[ ] Rememer me (keep me logged in on this computer for 14 days)" is certainly too long, but I think this is the kind of info that really would make a user feel safe and reassured about what's going on.

I develop on WP, and I had to dig in the codex to find out precisely what it meant. Compared to -say- google: you authorize a browser and you REALLY never have to log on again for months and months.

I think it's too early to balance the costs/benefits because we haven't established possible courses of action.
For esample: do we have in-page popups in WP? I don't think I ever saw them.

Much appreciated. Prior to posting, I did a keyword search and this ticket (#54716) did not pop up.

Following my original ticket (#55210), and for others reading this reply, I believe there is strong merit in changing "Remember Me" to "Stay Logged In" (in my humble opinion, also better than using "Keep me logged in" for translation reasons)

Hopefully, Team WordPress will review my original ticket (#55210) for other useful information related to this topic and approve the proposal.

Not a biggie, but would be nice to see the change.
