Wet half the lip of a martini glass and dip it in salt. Chill the glass. Pour the liquid ingredients into a cocktail shaker and fill with ice. Shake vigorously for 10 seconds. Strain into the glass. Garnish with olives on a spear.
This is delicious. I used jalapeño stuffed olives from Trader Joe's and triple sec.

I am a northerner who has resided in Austin for 25 years. I make this drink for Christmas holiday gatherings with my family in New England. I always add a few drops of Chalula Hot Sauce to this recipe and serve with jalapeño stuffed olives. My family affectionately calls this drink The Hot and Dirty.

Me and the old lady crushed these in West Texas. Absolutely love this recipe. I also used jalapeño olives and brine. The spice was perfect to off balance the sweetness.
Highly recommend substituting pineapple juice for the orange juice if you have it.
Lived in central Texas 6 years. This is the recipe. I also agree pickled jalapeños and tajin on the rim make the drink.
So delicious! Served to friends and everyone loved them. If you’re not an olive fan, you can’t taste any real olive flavor in the drink, just a nice balanced flavor.
Used jalapeno stuffed olives which were nice. We didn't have Cointreau so subbed blood orange liquor (solerno) and blood orange juice. Don't skimp on the brine from the olive jar. The mix was really good. Turned out great!

Instead of salting the rim try tajin! And add a hint of jalapeño juice for kick
I too was questioning the olive juice, but this was the perfect drink! I used the juice from Cerignola olives: there was no oil, just brine. The tequila I use is salty, so in this rare instance I omitted the salt rim. A really balanced recipe that tasted more like a margarita than a martini.
Great recipe! I used jalapeno stuffed olives, Triple Sec and added a tiny bit of agave. A strong drink but delicious!
Surprised me, sounds strange tastes great. Also tried it without Olive Brine and it does not work . Be bold go for it.
