INDUSTRY INSIGHTS: How to Identify Disinformation in the News and Online In an important election year, getting accurate information is crucial. Misinformation (inaccurate but not harmful), disinformation (false and harmful), and malinformation (exaggerated to mislead) can all skew our perceptions. Disinformation is particularly harmful as it aims to manipulate. To ensure accuracy, use the SIFT method: ➡️ Stop to assess emotional reactions ➡️ Investigate the source for credibility ➡️ Find better coverage by checking trusted resources ➡️ Trace claims back to their original context. Fact-checking tools and reliable sources can help verify the information we consume, making informed decisions easier. #informationauthenticity #digitaltrust #misinformation #disinformation #malinformation #MDM https://lnkd.in/gJa6FVxe

ICYMI on INDUSTRY INSIGHTS: The importance of digital identity management in the finance industry 💰 As digital payment methods become more popular, financial institutions need reliable ways to verify customers' identities to prevent cybercrime. Cyberattacks are on the rise, causing disruptions, data loss, and financial damage. In Singapore, financial authorities have set guidelines for cybersecurity, but stronger digital identity management is crucial. Criminals are now creating synthetic identities using real and fake data to bypass security. Traditional methods like one-time passcodes are insufficient against sophisticated threats like synthetic identities. Financial firms must adopt continuous identity verification and monitor suspicious activities to prevent fraud. Effective digital identity management not only enhances security but also improves customer experience, fostering trust and enabling financial institutions to innovate and compete in a rapidly evolving landscape. #digitalidentity #identityverification #digitalpayments #finance #fraudprevention https://lnkd.in/gPrFADhs

INTERNATIONAL NEWS: OIX calls on new UK government to accelerate digital ID rollout 🇬🇧 The OIX - Open Identity Exchange has urged the UK government to develop a comprehensive digital wallet strategy, clarify how digital IDs will be used across both the public and private sectors, and take a leading role in ensuring these IDs work internationally. In a letter to Secretary of State Peter Kyle, OIX emphasized that while the Digital Identity and Attributes Trust Framework (DIATF) is a good start, it needs rapid evolution. OIX highlighted that digital IDs could significantly boost the UK economy and efficiency in various sectors, advocating for digital versions of common identification like driver’s licenses and passports, and for the private sector to be involved in issuing these credentials. INDUSTRY NEWS: AI generated deepfake fraud drives public appetite for biometrics: FIDO Alliance Deepfake fraud is a growing concern in the financial and digital identity sectors, with a recent FIDO Alliance report highlighting that half of consumers worry about deepfakes and favor using biometrics for high-risk transactions. The report emphasizes the need for reliable biometric verification systems to combat fraud and ensure secure online identity verification, particularly as the accessibility of AI deepfake tools makes such scams easier to perpetrate. 🇺🇸🆔 U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Awards Contracts to Innovate Digital Credential Privacy The DHS Science and Technology Directorate (S&T) has announced government contracts awarded to Credence ID, Hushmesh, Netis d.o.o., Procivis, SpruceID, and Ubiqu. These contracts are aimed at developing privacy-enhanced technologies for digital versions of credentials used in immigration and travel, allowing users to store their information securely in digital wallets. Anil John, Technical Director of S&T’s Silicon Valley Innovation Program (SVIP), emphasized the importance of these developments, stating that the new capabilities will ensure secure storage and proper verification of credentials while preserving individual privacy. This initiative supports the DHS’s role as a primary issuer of critical credentials such as those for cross-border travel, employment eligibility, and citizenship. Jared X.
